What Are Spring Rolls?
Spring Rolls are rolled appetizers or dim sum commonly found in Chinese and other Southeast Asian cuisines.
The kind of wrapper, savoury fillings, and cooking technique used, as well as the name, vary considerably across Asia, depending on the region’s culture. They are typically filled with vegetables or other ingredients like pork, chicken and seafood.
In Canada and the US, Chinese restaurants typically serve spring rolls on their appetizer menus. You’ll find regional variations in Asia everywhere from humble street food carts to fine dining restaurants.
We’ve snacked on spring rolls on trips to Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore. Visit local food markets or hawker stalls in Asia and you’ll find deep fried spring rolls are one of the cheapest and affordable snacks.
At home one of our favourite snacks to serve with a cold craft beer is Air Fryer Frozen Spring Rolls. The quick & easy snack is ready to serve in less than 10 minutes, producing a crispy and crunchy exterior filled with a flavourful vegetarian filling.

My Family Loves Crispy Spring Rolls
My family loves cooking Asian recipes at home.
Growing up my parents would often order Chinese, Thai or Vietnamese takeout on busy nights of the week as a treat. We’d always order crispy spring rolls as an appetizer to share alongside Chicken Yuk Sung Chinese Lettuce Wraps, Singapore Chow Mei Fun Noodles and Wonton Egg Drop Soup.
Frozen Spring Rolls are so plentiful at local grocery stores you’re really spoilt for choice in terms of variety. We’d often bake store bought spring rolls to serve as an appetizer for an Asian meal or as a finger food to serve at birthday parties or sporting events like the Super Bowl.
Once my family upgraded our kitchen and purchased the trendy new gadget that everyone is talking about we were delighted to make easy Air Fryer Frozen Spring Rolls. Cooking the Asian snack in an air fryer instead of a deep fryer significantly reduces the amount of calories and fat in the dish making it a healthier option. Frozen Spring Rolls in an Air Fryer also take half the time to cook than in a tradition oven.
If we’re serving crunchy spring rolls at home we often offer guests a selection of sauces for dipping like plum sauce, sweet and sour sauce, soy sauce, hot sauce or sweet chili sauce.

How To Make Frozen Spring Rolls in Air Fryer
Our frozen spring rolls in air fryer recipe is quick & easy to make, ready to serve in under 10 minutes.
There are two methods to making frozen spring rolls in an air fryer, which depend on the style of device you are using.
- Traditional Basket: air fryers with a removable basket are still the most common. In order to make frozen spring rolls in these machines, simply place them in the basket and shake to ensure they are evenly separated.
- Toaster Oven Tray: modern air fryers featuring a glass door and tray configuration make it easy to prepare frozen spring rolls in an air fryer at home. Simply place the rolls in the basket and slide into the top position before closing the glass door.

How Long To Cook Frozen Spring Rolls In Air Fryer
- You can purchase frozen spring rolls at a grocery store or Asian supermarket or make your own homemade spring rolls.
- You can cook fresh or frozen spring rolls in an air fryer. Review our recipe card below to assess ideal cooking time. From frozen they take less than 10 minutes, depending on the make and model of your air fryer. If you’re cooking fresh spring rolls in an air fryer keep an eye on them as they will require less cooking time. Remove the spring rolls once they’ve browned and exterior is crunchy.
- Flip spring rolls half way through the cooking time to ensure even browning with a spatula flipper or tongs.
- Since store bought frozen spring rolls are typically pre-fried there is already oil on the exterior of the wonton wrappers so adding additional oil before cooking is not usually necessary. If you want to make extra crispy spring rolls feel free to spray them with a light mist of cooking spray.

Best Air Fryers
An air fryer is a small countertop convection oven designed to simulate deep frying without submerging the food in oil. A fan circulates hot air at high speed, producing a crisp layer via browning reactions.
In 2010, Philips introduced the Airfryer brand of convection oven at a consumer electronics fair in Berlin. It used the patented Rapid Air technology, though the term air fryer is now used generically.
Early air fryers were barrel-shaped, though more recently, many have come to resemble toaster ovens and pressure cookers, offering additional functions like toasting, baking, dehydrating and rotisserie.
A decade after their launch, Air Fryers are now one of the trendiest kitchen appliance. They are particularly popular with gourmands living in condos or apartments in big cities like Toronto as they reduce the number of appliances taking up space in your kitchen.
- Hamilton Beach: I tested this recipe with a Hamilton Beach toaster oven-style air fryer. They are an excellent option for those looking for an affordable air fryer and I particularly like mine as it allowed me to replace my toaster, dehydrator and rotisserie. It’s also easier to spread food out and make it crispy by using a baking tray rather than a basket.
- Instant Vortex: This popular air fryer is brought to you by the inventors of the popular Instant Pot. It’s 6 quart capacity features an easy to clean tray that air frys, roasts and bakes.
- COSORI: This 5.8 quart air fryer is an 11-in-1 cooker featuring a nonstick basket and helpful shake reminder setting.
- Ninja: This premium brand is the perfect option for those looking to invest in a heavy duty stainless steel air fryer. The product has been designed to look similar to an Instant Pot, with the top of the air fryer flipping backwards so you can easily lower a basket filled with food.
- NuWave: This sleek digital air fryer features a traditional removable basket and reaches temperatures up to 390 F.
