How To Make Bolitas de Queso Crispy Fried Cheese Balls
Bolitas de Queso (deep fried cheese balls) are a popular snack in many Latin American and Caribbean countries like Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Colombia and Venezuela.
Crispy fried cheese balls are typically prepared with a variety of grated cheese, spices and a starch like cornstarch, mashed yucca or plantain, which helps hold everything together.
Once the mixture is combined you simply roll the batter between the palms of your hands, roll into bread crumbs and gently drop into hot oil. The cheese balls are deep fried until crispy golden brown then served warm with an oozing melted cheese centre.
You can serve Bolitas de Queso at a snack table all on their own or alongside a dip like sour cream, guacamole, salsa or hot sauce.
