What Is Salsa de Aguacate?
Salsa de Aguacate (also known as Avocado Salsa Verde, Guacamole Taquero, and Tomatillo Guacamole) is a traditional Mexican salsa (sauce) prepared with ripe avocados, tomatillos, chiles, jalapeno, garlic, cilantro and lime.
The traditional Mexican Avocado Sauce can be prepared in a mortar & pestle by hand, or in just a few seconds when the ingredients are combined in a blender or food processor.
Salsa Aguacate is distinctly different from guacamole. Mexican Avocado Sauce does not have a thick and chunky texture like guacamole. It should be smooth and creamy, served with a small spoon so you can add a dollop of the dip to nachos, enchiladas, quesadillas, burritos, tacos or taquitos.
The ingredients found in Salsa de Aguacate are also slightly different from guacamole. Our recipe for the popular Mexican salsa include tomatillos, scallions and Serrano chillies, which you do not find in guacamole recipes.
We suggest serving Salsa Aguacate with other dips like queso fundido and Salsa Mexicana. Enjoy as a snack with an ice-cold and refreshing tequila cocktail.

Travel to Mexico by Making Salsa Aguacate at Home
I love traveling to Latin America.
As a professional food and travel journalist, I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy amazing meals in Central America, South America and the Caribbean, from traditional markets to award winning restaurants.
For over ten years, I’ve been on the hunt for the best Salsa de Aguacate recipe. I’ve embarked on culinary adventures at Mexican restaurants in Cuba, Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Curacao, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil.
In Mexico, I’ve spooned through creamy little bowls of bright green-coloured Avocado Salad at restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, Mexico City, Merida, Chichen Itza and Playa del Carmen.
Salsa Aguacate is a vegan and vegetarian recipe that is a healthy snack option because its low in sugar and full of healthy nutrients.
After enjoying your first taste, you’ll realize why Salsa de Aguacate is a must-try when visiting Mexico!

My Family Loves Mexican Avocado Sauce
I love cooking Mexican food for my friends and family.
I first made Mexican Avocado Sauce for my family on a hot summer day at the cottage. I served the creamy salsa on the dock as a mid afternoon snack with spicy queso dip, Mezcal Paloma Slushies and Margaritas.
I knew my parents would love this healthy dip because they enjoy Mexican food, flavourful dips and healthy vegan recipes.
Whenever I make this recipe I like to double it so I have leftovers I can store in the fridge and enjoy throughout the week. It tastes particularly delicious in the morning spooned over fried or scrambled eggs with warm tortillas.
