Movenpick is a Swiss hotel brand managed by Accor (also Fairmont) so expect exemplary service and top notch culinary offerings.

I visited my first property last Spring during a road trip of Albania. I spent a few days relaxing on the beach at the recently launched Mövenpick Hotel Lalëz Durrës

Like all Mövenpick properties, the resort in Kuwait offers guests signature turndown service, branded bath amenities, and a complimentary chocolate hour every day at 5pm (an homage to Switzerland’s fine chocolate shops).

Mövenpick Hotel & Resort Al Bida’a first opened in 2007 and stands out in the Kuwait accommodation market thanks to its unique contemporary Mediterranean-style. The spacious property is made up of modern low-rise buildings and surroudned by verdant landscaped gardens.

The hotel is conveniently located a short 15 minute drive from Kuwait International Airport and 10 minutes from Kuwait’s well-known shopping district in Salmiya.

It’s located in Al Bidaa neighbourhood, an entertainment hub boasting restaurants, entertainment activities, and international brands. Just 5 minutes from the bustling Boulevard you’ll find one of the biggest green spaces in Kuwait, which is located next to a popular shopping mall.

Mövenpick Kuwait Al Bidaa Restaurants

No Mövenpick Kuwait Al Bidaa review is complete until you’ve had an opportunity to wag your finger down each of the hotel’s marvellous menu.

The beach resort offers a varied menu featuring Western classics (like burgers, steaks, pizza, and pasta) as well as spiced-packed Indian favourites like Butter Chicken and Biriyani, and of course local Middle Eastern fare.

The hotel’s signature dining concept is Breeze Restaurant, an all-day-dining concept. Guests line up each morning to enjoy a bountiful breakfast buffet at Breeze Restaurant. You can opt to sit indoors with cool air conditioning or sweat it out on an outdoor patio that overlooks the beach.

At Breeze Restaurant enjoy a local taste of place with Middle Eastern dishes like Kebab and Mezze.

On my first night at the hotel I wanted to dive into local Kuwait flavours so ordered the mixed grill platter, which includes barbecued shish taouk, shish kebab, kofta and lamb chops complemented by a wide range of cold meze like hummus, tabbouleh, and fattoush.

Next door you’ll find Beldani Terrace, which is typically used as a private dining room or during busy holiday periods.

We suggest planning your dinner plans around the restaurant’s weekly theme nights, which include Wednesday Egyptian BBQ, Thursday Seafood, and Friday Dinner Buffet.

There’s no better place to enjoy a midday sip and snack than at the resort’s Pool Bar, which is located by a private tranquil beach and includes a shisha terrace.

During the peak heat of the day we suggest enjoying views overlooking the Arabian Gulf while nibbling on finger-licking-good snacks and refreshing drinks.

The Pool Bar menu features gourmet sandwiches, pizzas, Indian fare and a live station serving shawarma and barbecue with fragrant sizzingl kebabs.

Since Kuwait is a dry country you won’t find beer, wine or cocktails on the menu here. Instead you’ll find healthy smoothies, milkshakes, Minty Melon Cooler, Cucumber Mint Lemonade, Jamaica Iced Tea, and mocktails like pictures of fruit muddled Sangria, Mojitos and Pina Colada.

The Pool Bar also serves scoops of Movenpick’s famous ice cream.

On my final night at the hotel I ordered room service to my suite as it had such a spacious dining room table as well as coffee table to enjoy a more intimate meal while watching the news on a large flat screen television.

Since Movenpick is a hotel brand from Switzerland the menu has a signature Swiss dish, which I really wanted to order so I could transport myself from the hot dessert to the chilly alps.

Zurcher Geschnetzeltes, also known as Zurich-Style Veal Strips in Mushroom Cream, is served with roasted garlic potatoes and is a truly decadent treat. I also ordered a plate of spiced whole prawns dipped in a creamy curry sauce. Call that unconventional surf & turf!
