Looking for the best Toronto facials? We’re a town that’s obsessed with skin, so we did the hard work and tracked down the top facials in Toronto.
What ensued was a quest for skin optimization in a noisy industry that can be tricky to navigate. After skipping across the city to experience a variety of different treatments, we’ve landed on a bevy of key spots that are ready to make the most of your skin.
Read on to discover our guide to the top facials in Toronto.

What Is A Facial?
But first, what exactly is a facial? We reached out to C.R. Cooper, The Skin Theologian, to get her expert P.O.V. on the subject.
“Once upon a time, facials may have been considered a luxury, and only a nice-to-have, but they have quickly shifted to a need-to-have as the skin is the largest organ of the body,” she says. “It’s also what we showcase first!”
Cooper observes that, in the twilight of the pandemic, there has been a resurgence in interest in skin treatments. “Many people noticed pronounced skin concerns due to the ‘Zoom-effect’ where people were faced with the reality of the state of their skin on a camera,” she says, noting that people are no longer taking their skin for granted.
So, what are the benefits of regular facials, according to Cooper?
- Address all primary skin concerns—from acne to congestion to hyperpigmentation—with highly active ingredients that skin professionals are qualified to work with
- Jumpstart or repair skin at the close and/or the beginning of seasons
- Complement existing home care routines that need a professional boost
- Detoxify the skin and increase nutrient supply to the skin for better skin function and radiance
- Relax and re-energize the mind, body, and soul
- Help keep skin health at the forefront of goals
“Ultimately, facials are the golden standard of skin health,” Cooper says, “with trained skin professionals at the helm, helping clients achieve their best skin.”
Facial Frequency
So, how often can you have a facial?
The goal here really is long-term skin health, and you want to ensure your skin isn’t overstimulated. Enter: corneotherapy. Going beyond superficial concerns, corneotherapy is a holistic approach to skincare that zooms in on restoring and maintaining the health of the skin’s protective barrier, known as the stratum corneum.
Think of the stratum corneum as your skin’s goalie, stopping unwanted materials from entering your bod while simultaneously locking in moisture, preventing it from exiting the body. It plays a crucial role in skin health and overall well-being, and therefore you want to nurture it. Corneotherapy aims to restore balance and promote optimal skin function.
This is a long winded way of saying, space your facials out—everyone I spoke to recommended going every four or six weeks. Alternately, aim to get a facial quarterly, if a speedier pace is a bit too intense for your wallet.
Facial Steps
Generally speaking, Toronto facials adhere to these common steps:
- Skin Consultation: What are your skin goals and concerns?
- Cleanse: Your aesthetician will ensure your canvas is clean
- Skin Analysis: Skin is assessed and your aesthetician begins to tailor the facial to your skin type and concerns
- Exfoliation: Time to promote cellular turnover with either a physical (think scrub) or chemical exfoliation (think enzymes or acids)
- Extractions: If your skin has impurities, they will be banished at this stage
- Massage: Spurring on lymphatic drainage and relieving tension, this is an ultra-relaxing step
- Masque: One or two masques will be applied, addressing specific skin concerns
- Serums & Moisturizer: One or more tailored serums will be smoothed on, targeting your skin’s needs, following by hydrating moisturizer
- Sunscreen: You’re not leaving the facial without sun protection!
Types of facials offered will target specific concerns—maybe you’re thirsting for hydration or perhaps you’re veering towards 60 and are keen for a little pick-me-up. Or, you might yearn for a facial that involves aromatherapy for the ultimate relaxing experience. There really is a facial for every skin concern.
Popular Spas & Clinics Offering Toronto Facials
Those seeking Toronto facials can head to luxury hotel spas, boutique skincare businesses, and dermatologists, where skincare experts will literally take your skin into their hands. It all depends on the experience you’re seeking—whether one to suit an on-the-go lifestyle, or one for a day of indulgence.

Radford Studio at Kimpton Saint George
280 Bloor St W, 416-968-0010
When it first flung open its doors, the Kimpton Saint George had no spa services to speak of—until Victoria Radford came along, that is. Victoria, with her radiant skin and swishy pony, is the well-known face behind Radford Studio and the pairing is Toronto perfection.
“I wanted to enhance our in-room services,” says Ameera Azad, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Kimpton, “and so I wanted a luxury spa experience. We’re very big on supporting local businesses.” Partnering with Radford Studio? A no-brainer for this destination found just steps from bustling Yorkville.
The hotel itself is all cool sophistication and the rooms follow suit, dressed in soft grays and blues while coffee table tomes on Chanel and the Toronto design scene exemplify the hotel’s worldy-but-local M.O. Guests looking to book one of the best facials in Toronto have the spa brought to them; a mini spa zone complete with massage table is set up for a private R&R moment.
Facial Highlights
I arrive with skin that’s none too pleased with the harsh Canadian winter, causing my aesthetician—Sarah Scotford—much grief as we get into my hour-long facial.
After a double cleanse, Sarah exfoliates my skin with Radford’s Buff product—a daily enzyme exfoliant with granular beads to slough off the dead skin cells. She mixes it with Radford Tone, an AHA lactic toning gel. This chemical exfoliant, which Sarah likens to a Pac-Man munching away at dead skin cells (one of many analogies), is really great for acne, hyperpigmentation, and renewing skin cells.
Next, Sarah slathers my skin in Radford Dew oil in preparation for some nano-needling—the baby sister to microneedling.
“The nano-needling—it’s definitely the one that will give you the biggest visible results,” says Victoria. “It’s a microscopic 3D printed structure that has teeny tiny little crystallized silicone pyramids, and each tip is less than the diameter of a single strand of hair.” Tiny punctures—aka injuries—are made on superficial layers of skin, encouraging the skin to rush and mend itself, producing more collagen for that all-important youthful bounce.
Later, she places Radford’s 24K gold mask onto my face, creating a barrier for my skin to soak up all the ingredients—just like slugging. She tops The mask with red LED light to regenerate my cells on a deeper level, replenishing my collagen and elastin. Sarah calls this a grow light for the face.
She also performs gua sha on my skin. “My background is in naturopathic medicine, so I’m all about inner health and outer beauty,” says Victoria. “Gua sha—the oldest form of healing—is something we’ve always incorporated in all our facials, but we never really highlighted it.” Each facial from the curated Kimpton Saint George Toronto facials menu includes gua sha; its healing and relaxing qualities are just the ticket for jetsetters.

Radford Studio is serving up some serious Toronto facials. Victoria quips that they’re in the business of improving your skin, and she means it. My skin is reactive, so it came as no surprise that I emerged looking rosier than when I arrived. The nano-needling made my skin tingle, with some very slight sensitivity on my forehead in the immediate aftermath. (I did actually enjoy the sensation).
Next morning, the texture of my skin has notably improved, looking über-hydrated and firm. “Once you get the skin turning over, it’s always able to accept more,” Victoria notes, “so always do more after a facial and that will really maximize your skin over the next few weeks.” True to her word, a few days later, my skin emerges bright and rejuvenated.

SKINBYVEE®
Squirreled away from the thrum of Av and Dav, SKINBYVEE® is the definition of exclusive. Vee Mistry’s boutique studio fits a solitary client, with a massage bed centred in a tranquil room accented with exposed brick walls and many a lush plant. Vee herself has such a welcoming presence, radiating kindness and knowledge; you know you’re in expert hands. Seeking out a spot for utterly luxurious Toronto facials? This is it.
Born and raised in England, Vee ended up in Toronto for love (but of course!) and has been working her scientific skincare magic for the better part of a quarter-century. “My approach to skin is very holistic because what we see on the epidermis normally will come from gut health, stress health, or a combination of the two,” she notes.
By developing her own techniques and devoting herself to the science and anatomy of the skin, Vee’s managed to shine in a very noisy industry, and has a legion of devoted followers—many of whom are A-listers. Who doesn’t want to emerge from one of her facials with a totally sculpted visage? (And it goes without saying that Vee’s skin is a work of art.)
Facial Highlights
There are only four facials on Vee’s pared back Toronto facials menu; each one is as bespoke as it gets. Bookings are opened up three months in advance and spots fill up rapidly. I receive the 1.5 hour media version, which basically ensures that I’m sent on my merry way ready for whatever glossy event is on my cal. (It so happened to be playing a rather unglossy softball game, which I tell Vee with some trepidation.) She uses a slew of brands—from 111Skin to Augustinus Bader—maintaining an ingredient-focused approach while she does deep dives into clinical data to help assess the actual power of products.
Tucked beneath a duvet, my facial begins with a 30-minute massage that incorporates European and French techniques. (This is unusual since a third of a facial is generally not devoted to massage.) Vee whirls her fingers in myriad magical ways across one half of my face, pulling, lifting, and sculpting until she pauses and tells me to have a look at myself.
With cheekbone raised, buccal zone carved out, brow lifted, and eye totally opened up, Vee has quite clearly altered the shape of my face. It’s quite shocking—in the best of ways, that is. “We must use our hands, otherwise you’re never going to get the best results on the skin,” she says. “This is your facial workout.”
Vee tends to the other half of my mug before she pulls on some gloves and starts the buccal massage, working the inside of my mouth. Having read about her techniques, I assumed this portion might be a tad uncomfortable. It was the opposite; it was incredibly soothing and I struggled to stay awake while she tended to my lower face.
“This entire facial is more than just about the skincare,” Vee says. By working on the skin, the muscles and tissues, she’s able to make the client fall into an almost meditative state. “If you can bring all of those components you experienced together, the results are so much more visual, but also longer lasting.”
Dermaplaning is another component of the facial; a tiny razor blade skitters across my face and neck as a secondary means of exfoliation. We finish with masquing and her signature SKINBYVEE® gua sha cryo sticks. Vee applies a few serums to my face prior to popping on a chilled hydrogel masque which boosts ATP production (noteworthy for rejuvenation and moisture retention). Her signature cryo sticks emerge from the freezer before she performs Cryotherapy in tandem with gua sha to further soothe, calm, and lift my face while regulating bloodflow and constricting capillaries. (This massage is ideal for those with rosacea, pigmentation worries, acne, and more!) Very refreshing—especially on a roasting hot day.
Results
As noted above, post-facial my face looks and feels as though I’ve received a complete lift. In one word—a signature Vee term—I look juicy. There are no signs of puffiness to be seen. Had I been an A-lister trotting off to a soirée, light would have refracted off my face in all the right ways, and reporters would have written pages about my radiant visage. Facialist to the stars indeed.

Dermalogica
200 Bay St, Suite K101, 416-806-4939
Found in Toronto’s subterranean maze that is otherwise known as The Path, Dermalogica is a two-chair space perfect for a midday visit. Known for its commitment to skin health—versus beauty—Dermalogica is a professional skincare brand with an educational lean.
Drawing a crowd that’s part Financial District folks, part locals, and part devotees, this Toronto facials locale feels surprisingly hidden—despite the floor-to-ceiling windows surrounding it. My skin therapist, Caroline Silva, poses various questions regarding my skin type and my current goals (boost hydration and lessen redness), while she begins to tailor my facial to these concerns she’s hearing about and seeing.
Facial Highlights
My hour-long ProSkin 60 treatment begins with a thorough cleanse, allowing Caroline to conduct a visual consultation. Dermalogica’s Face Mapping system breaks each facial into modules, allowing the skin therapists to mix and match products based on the individual’s needs.
“It’s important to think along the way to see how your skin reacts, how it’s responding to the treatment,” Caroline says. “We like the mixology idea, so we’ll create new products from our preexisting products.” Throughout the facial she uses a combination of for-purchase products and professional ones. She observes some redness, some dryness, and a little bit of congestion. She applauds the luminosity under my eyes! Today’s focus? Hydration and skin health.
Then we get into it. Caroline begins my tailored facial experience with the Daily Milkfoliant, packed with hydrating coconut and oats. She brushes this exfoliant on in circular strokes.
A major focus is resurfacing. My skin therapist paints a protective gel masque around the corners of my eyes and lips before applying the resurfacing masque boasting 30 percent lactic acid. I experience a light tingling sensation while the chemical exfoliator does its work for five minutes.
Caroline then prepares my skin for extractions, and removes the sebum from inside my pores. (Slightly painful, as it goes.) She sweeps on post-extraction solution to help heal and prevent my skin from becoming inflamed and infected.
My therapist follows with some touch therapy. She whirls her fingers about, accessing pressure points on my face with the help of essential oils. She ends my facial with a spritz of the Hyaluronic Ceramide Mist and Circular Hydration Serum (locking in moisture). Plus she pops some Vitamin C serum under my eyes (to brighten and firm), along with moisturizer and SPF.
Results
In the immediate aftermath of my facial, my skin is slightly red from the extraction process. This, however, doesn’t last long. By nightfall, I’m looking very dewy and fresh-faced, with my pores entirely rid of debris. Come morning, my skin has settled and feels incredibly hydrated and it improves over the course of the week, as minor sloughing occurs.

Skin Tones Spa
371A Oakwood Ave, 416-410-3335
“As passionate medical aestheticians, it was always our dream to open a spa that offers skin care treatments that cater to all skin types,” says Mati Moses, co-owner of Skin Tones Spa. Along with Novalee Sterling, the duo opened their Toronto facials shop in July 2021 after identifying a serious need in the industry. In their years of experience, they found that—at the core—many spas weren’t actually inclusive.
“Our dream was to open an establishment where all races and cultures could come in and be confident that all the aestheticians are well versed with treating all shades of skin,” Mati says. They carry skincare lines that are specifically designed with this in mind. Dermaquest is an entire line that’s suitable for all shades of skin—something that’s not common. “It’s actually safe for every single person,” Mati says. “We’ve been in the industry for years, and sometimes we couldn’t perform on a really fair-skinned person or someone with a bit more melanin.”
Tucked in charming Oakwood Village, regulars dot the welcoming sunlit space while Erykah Badu plays overhead. Three aestheticians, one nail technician, plus an RMT make up the team. With a menu of 10 facials, there’s something for everyone—from the tween facial to advanced medical options, including microchannelling and hydrabrasion facials. Skin Tones offers discounts on packages and there’s both a referral and a loyalty program—plus, all first timers receive 10% off.
Facial Highlights
After I tuck myself into a heated massage bed, Mati begins my hour-long facial with a double cleansing and toning. Given my recent use of retinol (oops!), she opts for a cloud-like enzyme exfoliant that’s gentle so as to not overstimulate the blood flow in skin. She then steams my face to activate the dead-skin-eating enzymes.
A quick extraction session follows, and she uses high frequency as a post-extraction treatment to brings oxygen to the area to calm redness and reduce inflammation. Next up, Mati layers serums on my face beneath a massage cream, opting for a 10-minute European style massage to stimulate blood flow, collagen, and elastin.
Afterwards, Mati applies a cold hydro-gel masque to calm my skin. She blends an anti-aging and hydrating masque with a brightening one. Weighty and dotted with rose petals and orange peel, Mati tops the rubberizing mask with a rose quartz eye mask. She gives me a shoulder and neck massage as it activates. A warm towel infused with relaxing lemongrass completes the moment and she slathers me in serums, moisturizer, and SPF as the facial comes to an end.
No matter what, the team encourages all clients to fully immerse themselves in the experience. “Self care is love, and we all deserve that,” Mati says.

My reactive skin is a touch red afterwards but, more importantly, is radiant, very firm to the touch, and feels deeply hydrated. The next morn, all redness has dissipated and my pores are diminutive in size. All dryness has been banished and we’ve got glow!

Miraj Hammam Spa
188 University Ave., 647-253-5770
An oasis tucked away on the fifth floor of the sumptuous Shangri-La Hotel, the Miraj Hammam Spa is the spa of all spas. Despite being a sprawling space, a sense of intimacy is achieved through the layout. The spectacular decor takes notes from the architecture of Istanbul, Marrakech, and Paris.
The goal here is to whisk you away to a place of serenity—if even for an hour. Despite being in a hotel, the majority of clients are local. I wrap myself in a plush robe and am taken to a room accented with intricate mashrabiya panels to experience one of their top Toronto facials.
My aesthetician, Yujin Ahn, has worked at Miraj Hamman for nine years. She received her skincare education in both South Korea and here in Toronto. Throughout the facial she uses products from Biologique Recherche, a medical-grade skincare line hailing from Paris.
Facial Highlights
The 90-minute Custom Glow Facial is highly customized for each guests’ skin instant, using targeted techniques to obtain visible results.
Yujin examines my skin. She inquires about oil levels during the day while observing my larger pore size (tears) and a bit of roughness. The focus of this facial? Early anti-aging—or, ahem, skin maintenance (the latter being a term I far prefer in our youth-obsessed society). “All the products are cold-pressed because cold water brings down the inflammation,” Yujin says. “When you use hot water, it increases oil production and makes your skin more sensitive.” The benefits of cold water include lifting—something most everyone loves to hear.
“Exfoliating is the most important part of the skincare routine,” Yujin notes. “If you don’t exfoliate, then anything else you put on your skin doesn’t absorb into your skin—it just sits on top of your dead skin cells.” Exfoliating enables you to reap all the benefits.
Yujin applies a few drops of P50T—a bestselling liquid exfoliator—to my visage. It boasts a special blend of AHAs and BHAs (chemical exfoliants) and PHA (for fine lines). This combo will even out my skin tone while dissolving blackheads and dead skin cells. She then massages a booster into my skin using pumping and lifting techniques.
Next? The Yujin sweeps the Masque Visolastine + onto my face to boost hydration and lock moisture into my skin. After its application, she massages my face with icy cryo sticks, decreasing inflammation in a highly soothing manner.
Then she spritzes on oxygenating mist followed by a marine collagen sheet masque to plump the skin and encourage youthful qualities. While the masque works its magic, she massages my arms and feet. Huge bonus!
Next, it’s time for a blend of the brand’s pure and raw water-based serums. Yujin applies a hydrating serum around my eyes along with a collagen serum, a firming and lifting serum, and the tautening Sérum Matriciel Visage. The latter is what they’ve dubbed the Botox serum. We get some eye cream, some Biokiss lip gloss, a Crème VIP O2—an anti-pollution cream—plus another finishing serum.
At the end, I’m whisked away to the relaxing room for delicious squares of baklava and tea.
Results
My skin looks radiant following the procedure and there is no redness or irritation whatsoever. I’m tight and lifted and I could happily skip straight to the theatre with friends. The takeaway here? Keep it cold-cold-cold to iron out any puffiness from your visage.

Stillwater Spa
4 Avenue Rd., 647-948-3120
Years ago, I loved swinging by the Stillwater Spa at the Park Hyatt for some R&R. Just before the pandemic hit, the hidden space was shuttered to get a facelift by Alessandro Munge of Studio Munge in collab with KPMG Architects. And now? Wow, does she look good.
Using Canada’s great outdoors as inspiration, design features include an installation by artist Alisa Coe and watercolour accent walls. Luxe, sophisticated, tranquil—but not silent—this is a totally zen zone to escape to when seeking out one of the best Toronto facials in Yorkville.
Facial Highlights
I have been booked in for the 75-minute Rejuvenate facial. This experience spruces you up in myriad ways using marine-based Phytomer products. These are packed with ingredients such as algae and botanicals harvested from the sea. (The Park Hyatt has the Canadian exclusive on this French line, however other facials use SkinCeuticals and Aromatherapy Associates products.)
I start face-down on the heated massage table. My aesthetician, Daniella Kantcheva, gives me a relaxing back massage before she applies a self-heating marine mud masque to my back (yes!). The goal? To draw toxins from my bod.
Daniella, who has 18 years in the industry under her belt, then starts the cleansing and toning dance. She notes that my skin’s a little bit dry on the surface (it never ends!) and that I should be using Vitamin C daily. She massages a pure pore heating masque into my face. The motion activates the marine ingredients which form a potent cleansing and depolluting cocktail to oxygenate my skin.
She performs minor extractions; no steaming is used, but hot towels are fine (this is part of Phytomer’s philosophy). Then she applies a serum for sensitive and dry skin and performs a European-style face massage.
Later, Daniella smooths the Gentle Comfort masque over my face and décolletage. Made for reactive skin, it soothes and eases my skin, bathing it in moisture as Daniella gives me a hand and arm massage. Then, as a final hurrah, I’m shuttled over to the lounge for some desserts and cold-pressed juice. A true cherry on top of a delicious afternoon.
Results
My skin looks fantastic and is ready to rumble pronto; for dinner out I apply but a lick of makeup. I’ve got that glow. Overall, the marine-based products were very soothing and well-suited to my reactive skin, which lapped up the formulas with gusto. Days later the results are still tangible.

Hammam Spa by Céla
602 King St W, 416-366-4772
Many a person went into the pandemic looking one way, and emerged as version 2.0 of themselves. Hammam Spa by Céla underwent this very transformation. Barely recognizable—save for the fact that it still occupies a lower level space in the hub of King West—this spa has elevated almost every facet of its being.
Inspired by Türkiye’s famed hammams, the east-meets-west renos have birthed a vibrant lobby, art-dotted hallways, and plush treatment rooms. Not to mention an inviting lounge with a fireplace, a tile floor starring shrunken kilims, and cocoon-like chairs carved from blonde wood. The only untouched area is the steam room; be sure to arrive early to enjoy its soothing benefits prior to any treatment.
Facial Highlights
I receive the 60-minute Céla Northern Experience Facial. This facial uses almost entirely Céla skincare products from the Glacial collection, which zooms in on glacial clay from Canada’s north. What’s so great about clay, you might ask? It promises to cleanse, detoxify, and hydrate in a gentle manner.
My aesthetician, Vickie Tu, begins this hot-and-cold facial by steaming my face as she conducts a double cleanse. Vickie got her skincare education at Humber College and has been with the Hammam Spa for over six years. Her interest in all skin blossomed while dealing with acne as a teenager, and she’s been on her quest to help those with skin concerns ever since.
After she gleefully performs some extractions (I get it) Vickie gives me a facial massage that prioritizes lymphatic drainage. Later, she sweeps on a clay masque that tingles oh-so-slightly as it clears out impurities, brightens, and adds a megadose of moisture to my mug.
She covers my eyes with a quartz mask, and massages my arms using an incredibly intoxifying cream that smells exactly like orange Crush. Before my masque has finished its work, hot towels are applied to my feet, leaving me utterly relaxed. (Hot towels are a recurring theme during this facial. So if you like them, this will be your jam.)
After she spritzes on some face mist made with antioxidant-packed snow algae, and smooths on a collagen-producing face oil formulated with red maple bark. The facial comes to an end as Vickie massages my face with cool granite wands, promoting more lymphatic drainage. Et voilà!

I’m dewy, not glistening; I’m rejuvenated, not rosy. My face—really, my entire upper body—is ready to go the moment I emerge from the spa, and the results last. Foundation? Concealer? Never heard of ‘em.

Guerlain Spa at Hotel X Toronto
111 Princes’ Blvd, 647-475-9288
After a rather painful journey home from a magical holiday in Southeast Asia, my skin was in need of a facial and, thankfully, the Guerlain Spa was calling my name. Housed on the fourth floor of the relatively new Hotel X—found on the outskirts of Exhibition Place—this spa is devoted to all things Guerlain.
With a view out to Lake Ontario, the space feels airy and modern as giant flasks of parfum, pops of golden yellow, and decorative bees dotted about remind you of the brand’s investment in products built around the revitalizing power of honey. The guests are a mix: locals celebrating life’s big moments alongside hotel guests seeking out a bit of pampering.
Facial Highlights
After changing into a robe and having a moment on a S-shaped massage chair, my 1.5 hour Imperial Global Age-Reverse Treatment facial begins. My aesthetician, the lovely Lineo “Dee” Molefe, sets me up on a heated massage bed with a duvet in a room awash in soft gray hues.
Dee has 18 years of experience—gained in South Africa, the UK, and here in Toronto—which is hard to believe given her youthful visage. (She’s also a talking encyclopedia on all things Guerlain.) Her focus today? Everything you might associate with, ahem, graceful ageing, including hydration (yes), firmness (always), fine-lines (mmmkay), pigmentation (yes, please), and sculpting (we love). All products used are from Guerlain’s Orchidée Impériale range, which harnesses the incredible longevity of orchids to re-energize cells and wake up the epidermis.
After some aromatic relaxation, Dee steams my face and intro’s a double cleanse using a foaming followed by a milky cleanser. Her focus is hydration; it’s imperative after travel. “Never be a raisin!” Dee laughs after sharing a visual of a plump grape transforming into a dried-out raisin after losing all moisture. The words of warning rattle around my head. She paints on a non-drying AHA exfoliant to stir up the dead skin on my face, and then proceeds to perform extractions—much needed following a too-thick sunscreen.
Highlights include a 20-minute facial massage during which my cheekbones are a huge focal point. “This is like Pilates for the face,” Dee quips. They’re lifted and lifted until my face feels as though it’s shifted slightly. This moment is finished with a soothing rose quartz massage to reduce puffiness and help lymphatic drainage. At another point my feet get a hot towel treatment, and my arms are massaged as a hydrating masque does its job. We love a 360 facial.
Dee’s big skin tip for me? Invest in essences. She patted on two of these water-based skincare products during my facial, as they’re packed with active ingredients to wake up the skin while ensuring it stays super hydrated. They’ll also help make your pores appear smaller, if that’s your jam. (If you wanna get fancy, there’s Guerlain’s Orchidee Impériale The Essence-Lotion Concentrate Emulsion.)
Dee also observes that it’s likely I wear a lot of hats (so true!!) in addition to facial sunscreen because the skin on my face shows far less skin damage than on my décolletage. (Darn. Challenge accepted.) After it’s all over, I’m offered (but decline) a splash of makeup (it’s a French brand—don’t forget!), some tea, and two very tasty macarons before I’m on my way out the door.
Results
My nose is a teeny bit red from the extractions, but the average soul would never notice. My pores look snatched (“‘Snatched’ is what people want!” Dee says) and there’s no longer any bumpiness or residue visible on my T-zone. The hydrated, plump texture of my skin continues on into the week, while my dedication to sunscreen doubles.

Aman Spa
47 Colborne St, 416-863-6564
A jewel box of a spa, Aman is the hottest thing to hit Toronto’s Design District in, oh, forever. Owner Thom Tullo opened up shop in 2023 with the goal to bridge the wellness gap between swishy hotels and rehab centres. While Yorkville girlies were his original target market, for now he’s wooing deserving neighbourhood folk with his tailored treatments.
A historic building houses the boutique spa, boasting high ceilings, a majestic hallway, and six serene treatment rooms accented by exposed brick. Due to its petite nature, clients should note that there’s no change room or showers, so keep this in mind when finessing any post-treatment plans.
Facial Highlights
I’m here to experience the Elemental Facial, a brand new addition to the facials menu. My medical aesthetician, Marcella Herrera, goes way back with Thom; former coworkers at the Four Seasons spa, they share the same skincare philosophies. Marcella has been entranced by all things skin since watching her mom slather on beautifying products at a young age. Her fascination grew, and next thing she knew she had found her vocation.
BioEffect products are used throughout this particular facial. (111Skin is used in others.) This Icelandic brand prides itself on being completely plant-based and has developed the protein EGF—Epidermal Growth Factor—using barley grown in a greenhouse in Iceland. Our skin naturally produces EGF until we’re in our 20s, and then it slows right down. (Sigh.) We crave this protein as it keeps our skin looking plump, supporting production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.
Onto the facial itself! As its name suggests, the hour-long treatment highlights the four elements: air, water, earth, and fire. Some elements make repeat appearances; others appear just once. “It’s all about hydration for you,” Marcella exclaims as she prods my winterized skin, determining our goals.
Earth is spotlit during the exfoliation portion. A volcanic exfoliator containing micro-crystalline lava particles is used to help remove impurities and refine the skin’s surface. Marcella says I need to be more intentional about exfoliating during my skincare routine, taking care to massage my face for at least two minutes.
Air is arguably the most fun portion of the facial; Marcella uses a fancy gadget—a pressurized air brushing tool—to whisk EGF essence into my freshly-exfoliated pores, awakening my skin in the most soothing of ways. “Essences are really great for pulling in any type of humectants,” Marcella notes. I’m transported to a wind-swept beach south of Reykjavík, waves crashing into the sand as Björk appears in the distance.
Marcella then massages BioEffect’s famed barley EGF serum into my face; applying it to damp skin lets the EGF truly penetrate the dermis. This helps bring oxygen to the skin, get the blood flowing, and stimulate lymphatic drainage.
Fire comes courtesy of a red LED mask which is slightly claustrophobic. First, Marcella tops my face with an Imprinting Hydrogel Masque, formulated to ensure that barley EGF is properly delivered to the skin. “It’s a great, great form of hydration,” she says, “as it has some hyaluronic acid and some glycerin—it’s a really beautiful blend.” While the LED does its work, my arms are slathered in organic sandalwood shea butter and massaged.
Lest we forget, the facial ends on an icy note: water, delivered via cryotherapy to represent glaciers. (Water is also present throughout the facial, but this step has the biggest oomph.) Marcella whirls icy globes around my face, soothing and contracting pores, before she smooths on more serums and creams, including one targeting the eyes.
“Our eye area doesn’t produce as much oil as the rest of our skin,” she notes, “that’s why it’s the first area that gets wrinkles. Eye treatments are so important—they’re really not a gimmick!”
Finally, my lips get some gummy-scented La Neige gloss, and I’m sent on my merry way.

After drifting off to sleep with a rather slick-but-bouncy face (I would avoid making big post-facial plans) I awaken the next morn to a visage that’s the definition of dewy. My radiant skin has lapped up all the serums and creams and has emerged totally refreshed and hydrated. What a win!

Mokara Spa
37 King Street East, 416-863-9700
The orchid is a flower that holds mysterious allure for a variety of reasons, one of which is its rejuvenating power. There’s no wonder, then, that Mokara Spa has been named after a type of highly prized orchid, one that symbolized beauty and refinement, and blossoms in a variety of hues.
Housed in the famed OMNI King Edward Hotel—Toronto’s first luxury hotel colloquially known as the King Eddy—this space got a well-deserved facelift and was set to reopen just as the pandemic hit. After sitting pretty for a few months, the spa got her grand debut in the Fall of 2020.
The space itself is quite expansive, and chances are you’ll bump into a number of robed guests nibbling on bites before and after your treatment. (Mokara’s snack station is arguably the best in town, with the likes of fruit, granola, coconut balls, and chocolates on offer alongside bevvies.) Patrons are a mix of locals and hotel guests.
Facial Highlights
Prior to the renovation, Mokara only used Eminence products in their facials. However, the spa team was keen to offer guests an alternative, so added high-performing, luxury brand Babor into the fold. (Along with Coola suncare products—my favourite!—all are available for purchase.) Today I’m experiencing the Babor Collagen Infusion Facial during which the German brand’s products are exclusively used. The goal? Cling to youth. We’re tightening, we’re lifting, we’re plumping, and we’re smoothing out those lines.
After tucking myself into the massage bed, my feet are elevated (ahhh) and the facial begins. (It’s worth noting that my feet are real close to the edge of this narrow bed; it’s better suited to smaller folks.) After an oil-based cleanser leaves my skin residue-free, I’m toned and prepped for a peptide-packed Vitalizing masque. (No extractions are performed.)
My aesthetician brushes the masque on in swift strokes, as I await its rapid heating effect on my skin. Why heat, you ask? To stimulate blood flow and the skin’s natural renewal process. Once it tingles, it’s wiped off with a warm towel. Next, a fruit acid peeling gel is applied, removing dead skin cells to make way for radiance.
Another highlight of the 75-minute treatment is the silver foil masque. Not only do I admire my visage wrapped in an armour-like shield, but its hydrating effects are equally as impressive. Packed with hyaluronic acid, the silver foil ensures the active ingredients properly penetrate the skin, helping to improve the skin’s barrier and plump it right up.
While the masque works its magic, my aesthetician gives me both a hand and foot massage, a dreamy combo during a facial. (I’ve swapped a scalp massage for foot as my freshly-washed hair is looking forward to an event-filled day and night.) Finally, I’m slathered in rich collagen cream, some SPF, and sent back to the snack zone.

I skip away from my facial looking particularly radiant and jump around town while my skin continues to glow, glow, glow. My visage is incredibly soft to the touch and Coola’s Sun Silk Drops serve to enhance. I do indeed get a number of compliments on my refreshed look and would definitely recommend this as a facial with zero downtime. Weeks later, my skin continues to look and feel well-hydrated.

Formula Fig
50 Ossington Avenue, 1-888-848-1970
When it comes to aesthetics, it’s hard to beat Formula Fig. The talk of the town for, oh, far more than a hot minute, the Ossington locale has been appealing to the stylish westender since 2022. The mini chain is the doing of JJ Walsh, an efficiency-obsessed Englishwoman who cut her teeth at Tatler under the one and only Isabella Blow. (How’s that for fashion lore?) Anyways, her husband’s job brought her to Canada where, in need of community, she started her own.
“Formula Fig was founded to change the status quo and encourage more people to adopt a consistent routine for skin care and confidence,” JJ says. “Rather than needing to go to a med-spa for facials, a dermatologist for injectables, and a product retailer, we sought a place that offered it all. A place that was aspirational yet accessible. High-tech yet human. Results-driven yet luxurious. This place didn’t exist—so we created it.” Since flinging open the doors of her first Vancouver space, JJ hasn’t stopped. Currently, the entrepreneur is in L.A. expanding her biz. “Our goal is to become the global leader in aspirational yet accessible skincare experiences,” she says.
Outside the Ossington Fig, alluring green tiles beckon to passersby, while inside the modern apothecary vibe makes you feel like you’re in very good hands. After perusing the robust product offerings—from Epara to Tata Harper to Paume—I’m whisked into my adorable little pod where a comfy barber’s chair (yes, it’s fig green) awaits me.
Facial Highlights
I’m well aware that these facials are very go-go-go. The goal is to pack as much into the 30-minute window as possible; remember that this is not a languid masque-with-massage kinda facial. Those keen on a ‘tox refresher can book a “stingers” appointment with one of their doctors that come in a few times a week.
Plus, they have a membership club, offering discounts on monthly or weekly facials (mainly LED-focused) to folks who really want to commit to their skin. (There are a few different memberships for the skincare obsessed; choose based on your skin’s needs.) Members will get a li’l perk here and there to boot.
My All In facial is true smorgasbord of a treatment. My skin educator, Raquel Gonzalez, notes this is one of their most popular facials, and the half hour window makes it easy: “We get people coming here on their lunch break all the time,” she says. “A lot of facials are branded at this point; it’s nice to offer something curated.” JJ’s savvy for products is laudable.
A double cleanse features Odacité micellar water and Dr. Loretta, and then we’re off to the races with some diamond-tip microdermabrasion used to exfoliate and polish. Yes, the sensation is akin to a cat’s tongue drifting across my face and I feel well-scrubbed.
Next, Raquel uses a microcurrent across my mug to lift and tone the muscles. My skin’s prepped with the house gel masque which has calming properties. The sensation is warming and slightly ticklish here and there, but overall quite soothing.
Then she’s stimulating collagen with the help of ultrasonic technology to work its way deep below the surface and cause a healing reaction. “Radiofrequency helps stimulate collagen production in the skin” Raquel says. My skin feels tightened.
LED light therapy is up next—I get the choice of red or blue, and opt for the latter. It targets redness and inflammation while also stimulating that beloved collagen. Only complaint here is I would have liked some goggles to help with the brightness.
My aesthetician also went for an oxygen serum blast because, well, why not? (Note that it’s an add-on.) I’m told it’s nice and refreshing (true), will help the serums absorb, and fight free radical damage, too.
And before I got too cozy in the already (surprisingly) comfortable chair, I was up and sent on my way out the front door.
Results
Overall, I’m quite pleased with the results. My post-facial face is a tad red and my skin is über hydrated and tacky to the touch, and remains so for the next day. I’m thankful I don’t have plans, despite feeling quite lifted and sculpted. Next day the hydration is real, and my skin is as soft as can be. For clients who have forgotten what to do post-treatment, the Formula Fig website contains some handy pointers. This is skincare, made easy.

Skin Prick
334 Adelaide Street West, 647-553-2990
Ok. Let’s be honest: Skin Prick is a medispa first and foremost. The cheeky name kinda says it all, however the boutique space, located on the third floor of a downtown condo building, also has a highly curated facials menu.
“Don’t get me wrong,” says clinic director Alyssa Gill, “I love going to relaxing places, but for me, it’s all about the best bang for your buck, right?” Skin Prick offers their Signature Facial, and their Snatch Facial. I’m here for the latter, which feels a teeny bit daunting given the lasers involved.
However, I trust I’m in good hands. Alyssa started her career at a facial plastic surgery clinic, learning the ins and outs before taking over the laser clinic at his practice. Smitten with the power of lasers, she hopped over to dermatology before helping launch and open a clinic in Toronto’s east end. All these years and varied experiences encouraged her to do her own thing, resulting in Skin Prick, which opened in Fall 2023.
Facial Highlights
After some before photos I hop, fully dressed, onto the bed and Alyssa covers my chest with a towel and scrapes back my hair. We are not on a heated bed, nor are we tucked under a blanket. After a steaming and a thorough cleansing, we’re ready. (While I don’t have any extractions, this is a standard part of the facial for those who want and need them.)
First up is laser number one—an ablative laser, if you wanna nerd out—which penetrates the tissue inside the mouth via a large gun. Our target? The nasal labial fold aka the marionette lines. “It’s gonna tighten our skin by targeting the water in the mouth,” Alyssa says. “That creates a shrink wrap effect with our tissue, giving immediate results.” I don a nerdy pair of glasses, and the laser gunning begins.
She notes that ablative lasers do have some downtime, however since we’re working inside the mouth, which is very water abundant, the healing happens real quick. Despite all this, I wasn’t uncomfortable, and my inner mouth emerged only slightly swollen. (I am the type who generally finds a trip to the dentist relaxing.)
The second laser—a non-ablative laser—works its magic from the outside and offers quick recovery. “Non-ablative means that we are not breaking the tissue on the skin, so we’re working in the dermis by waking up our collagen cells and signalling them to start multiplying,” Alyssa clarifies. I’m outfitted with highly protective metal eyewear, and the treatment begins.
One of Alyssa’s favourite things about this treatment is its ability to alleviate redness, kill bacteria, and minimize and shrink pores. I’m apprehensive about the latter, but more on that later.
The sensation throughout the lasering is that of heat being sprinkled across my face, with certain parts getting increasingly toasty. (The laser is heated between 40°C and 42°C, the sweet spot where it’s clinically proven to stimulate collagen.) I emerge feeling as though I’ve got a light sunburn. Perhaps this sounds like volunteer torture to you. To me, this laser was definitely more intense due to being blindfolded, however at the end of the step, my skin feels remarkably tight.
I’m then spritzed with a bioactive solution to prep the skin; it’s got glycolic, lactic and some salicylic acid in it, which is also amazing for pores and will further brighten the skin for that glow. “I use this every morning,” Alyssa says; to be clear, her skin is phenomenal.
Lest you think this facial’s only about lasers, it’s not. In part three Alyssa comes in with a collagen sheet masque which is derived from salmon sperm. (Salmon allergy? They’ve got substitutions.) After delicately applying it, she sprays me with a high prime collagen mist which dissolves the tissue masque in seconds. Neat.
Finally, we’re onto a lymphatic massage step of the treatment; Alyssa uses a double roller to target all the main lymph nodes—around the ears, down my neck—in soothing motions. Then she slathers on a Biophora moisturizer.
“I’ve been using Biophora since I was 12; my dermatologist recommended it and I fell in love with it, they have the best medical grade acid combos.”
And there you have it, my facial is done; Alyssa notes I could do my regular skin care routine before bed, or keep the masque on to increase absorption.
Results
After my hour-long facial is done, Alyssa snaps some post-treatment photos, documenting my face in the exact same positions for a side-by-side comparison. Yes, I can see the difference, especially in my nasolabial folds and smile lines, which have been softened.
Fast forward a few hours, and I opt to not wash my face before bed to really maximize the hydrating power of the masque. My face is slightly tacky, and remains so in the AM. I’m also glowing, to use everyone’s favourite beauty term. As for those pores? In the post-facials days they are, in fact, smaller than when I arrived. Oh, and my 11s—which I had been testing out the day before—have been lessened dramatically. All in all, this is a power facial with visible results. And I’ve got the photographic proof.

Skin6
802 Dundas Street West, 416-362-6266
Fun fact: Drag queens and Real Housewives alike frequent Skin6. (Boa from Canada’s Drag Race and the one-and-only Lisa Rinna, if you must know.) Thankfully, mere mortals are also happily welcomed through the medispa’s front door. I’m here at the airy west end space for the Deluxe version of the HydraFacial, a 1.5 hour treatment which incorporates spa elements to make it more of an experience.
“When everybody else was trying to date in high school, I was trying to figure out how to deal with my acne,” says Jeremy Tebbutt, founder of Skin6. While it started out as a hobby, it quickly segued into his obsession.
Jeremy first caught wind of the HydraFacial on daytime TV, and just knew it was the right horse to bet on. He invested in a hydration machine and it’s all been uphill from there, allowing him the opportunity to open up his own medispa. “Next thing I knew, all of Toronto was interested in HydraFacials,” he says with a twinkle in his eye. “I don’t want to take credit, but…”
In a cheeky analogy, Jeremy says the HydraFacial is to the face what the dentist is to your teeth. “Is it, like, a big money treatment?” Jeremy posits. “Not necessarily—but it’s effective!”
Facial Highlights
My lovely aesthetician, Camila Acosta, talks me through the treatment, which uses medical grade Skinceuticals; Jeremy opted for this line due to many clinical studies proving efficacy of ingredients.
“At Skin6, our HydraFacial incorporates LED therapy and some Dermaplaning as physical exfoliation to remove vellus hairs and dead skin that’s on top of the skin,” Camila explains.
After I’m cleansed, Camila performs the Dermaplaning (using a tiny razor blade) before exfoliating my skin further with diamond-tip dermabrasion. A hand tool aids with some extractions.
Then we’re onto the main draw. “Your pores are going to be opened up a little bit,” Camila says, “and then we’re going to be infusing all those serums.” The HydraFacial machine uses vortex-fusing technology, which basically whirs away impurities, before my skin is infused with antioxidants: Vitamins A, C, D, E, rosemary extract, and hyaluronic acid. This combo helps with hydration, irritation, and also brightens the skin.
An anti-inflammatory Phyto masque—packed with cucumber, thyme, and hyaluronic acid—is applied, aiding with hydration and preventing inflammation. Typically the facial incorporates a chemical peel (they have three) however it’s recommended I avoid it as my reactive skin likely won’t take well to too much newness in one day. (We book a future date.)
The finishing touch is the red LED light therapy, which I cook under for 10 minutes as collagen and circulation are stimulated.

Camila tells me to avoid touching my face and to ensure I change my pillowcases and towels to avoid getting bacteria in my freshly cleaned pores. Afterwards I am looking très fresh indeed. Despite everything, there’s no sign of redness and I’m off to meet friends who are legitimately excited by my glow.
I’m thrilled with the results—which include a baby-soft feel thanks to the Dermaplaning—which continue on into the next week and beyond. True story: I had a follow-up appointment with someone in the industry two weeks post-HydraFacial, and she immediately notices on my improved skin. Just sayin’!

Terra Massage Boutique
4 Collier St Suite 202, 416-990-4995
Remember: not all facials are created equal. My latest facial took place at Terra Massage Boutique, a très charmant nook tucked across the street from the Toronto Reference Library. This facial’s for the girls who are grinding their teeth at night. It’s for folks who can’t help but grimace while hearing that Teams ping. And, turns out, it’s for those who experience a lot of eye strains. Like yours truly.
Terra Massage Boutique opened in June 2024 by partners in love and life, Matthew Michels and Melissa Lesic. A pal from Montreal told the duo about TMJ (aka jawbone) massage and so Melissa, who is an RMT, pursued training for it.
“It was not at all popular here in Toronto when we started thinking about this business,” notes Matthew, “and since anything that has to do with facial health plays very well with our core target of young professionals, we figured it would appeal to folks just for the sake of novelty.” But, upon introducing it to their massage roster, the Terra team realized the prevalence of TMJ issues in their predominantly female clientele.
“A dentist recently told me that 70% of her clientele clench their jaws and/or grind their teeth, which can lead to tooth decay (obviously) but also neck pain and headaches,” Matthew says. “Some folks opt for $600 worth of Botox to get temporary relief, but a buccal massage properly performed by a trained RMT can relieve tension in the jaw and significantly improve the range of motion.”
Matthew notes that—for some—repeated treatments can even eliminate the root cause of migraines. Plus, there’s the enjoyment factor that far outshines getting Botox ! (Note: If anyone’s getting any ‘tox, don’t book this massage two weeks after as they won’t perform it.)
Facial Highlights
Upon arrival at Terra, clients set themselves down into a comfy reception chair; it feels like you’re chilling in your friend’s living room. It’s convivial yet tranquil, a duality I didn’t think possible until my first visit. (Highly recommend the body massages too, FYI. Read here.)
Dubbed Terra Facial Therapy, this massage targets the neck, face, and jaw muscles. Clients climb onto a heated massage bed before the therapist begins the treatment. My lovely RMT, Jenny Nichol, focused on my neck and decolleté to start, also working tension out from my upper back. (She said I carry a lot, which didn’t surprise me.)
Then Jenny moved onto my face itself. Using jojoba oil, selected as it’s the most similar in composition to human sebum, she massaged in circular motions, targeting my jaw muscles to ease tension.
My favourite part was the ocular massage around my eye sockets and forehead. I experience plenty of eye strain from, oh, modern day living and my eyes are constantly weary at the day’s end. This circular massage and incorporation of pressure points provided a lot of relief; Jenny noted we’re looking for ocular release. I think we found it.
The massage also incorporates gua sha. I was told to focus on doing this to my jawline regularly to help with tightness and tension. Jenny then moved on to an intra-oral massage—aka buccal massage—where my masseters were targeted. I don’t believe I grind my teeth, but I sure do clench them.
Some folks may find the concept of an intra-oral massage a tad, um, daunting. Honestly, it sounds like it might be pretty uncomfortable, but it’s quite the opposite; I’ve found it incredibly relaxing. In no way, shape or form does it recall a trip to the orthodontist. Did I think I wanted my eye sockets massaged during a buccal massage? I did not but—wow—highly recommend.
Finally, the massage ends with some cupping. This is not the cupping of Gwyneth Paltrow’s back, back in the day. This cupping uses adorable little suction cups that just create a pleasant kiss-like sensation all over your face and down your neck. If you’ve had doctor fish, that’s the vibe. But the soothing iteration.
Results
I emerged feeling lifted and sculpted, with a jaw that carried far less tension. Plus, there was a greater range of movement. Not to mention I felt very inspired to become regimented with my at-home gua sha routine. This is the facial you didn’t know you needed.
