Hualalai’s Beach Tree Restaurant at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai

Without a doubt, the most picturesque spot to toast the sunset in style on Hawaii’s Big Island is at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai’s Beach Tree. Set along the sand and overlooking the ocean, Beach Tree is the most sought after spot to sip a sundowner.

Nicola is obsessed with sunsets so much so that he even has a mantra, “the only thing better than this sunset is the anticipation and excitement for tomorrows!” So on his first visit to Hawaii I wanted to ensure his first sunset in Polynesian paradise was unforgettable.

Just before day transitioned into night we skipped past breezy palms, waved at a local band who crooned for a crowd with traditional Hawaiian love songs and dug our feet into the soft sand. It is here, by the water’s edge at Beach Tree that I suggest you wine and dine your Hawaiian newbie and pop their Aloha sunset cherry.

Start by sipping through a trilogy of craft cocktails inspired by the tropics; you’ll encounter a muddling of jalapeno, lime, passionfruit and pineapple, each glass adorned with a fresh orchid. Slurp through your straws by the shore until only a sliver of light remains along the horizon. As darkness sweeps over the Pacific prance under 16 foot vaulted ceilings before plopping yourself down for dinner.

Featuring Italian cuisine with Californian and tropical influences, Beach Tree offers tan fans a perfect perch to end the day with a glass of wine and fork full of spaghetti. With over 60 wines by the glass you’ll have plenty of opportunity to find the perfect pairing while sampling through bright beet salad, hearty tagliatelle bolognese and buttery shrimp scampi.
