What Is A Tequila Ginger Ale?
Ginger Ale is a carbonated soft drink flavoured with ginger. It is consumed on its own or used as a mixer, often with spirit-based drinks.
There are two main types of ginger ale. The golden style is credited to the Irish doctor Thomas Joseph Cantrell. The dry style (also called the pale style), a paler drink with a much milder ginger flavour, was created by Canadian John McLaughlin.
Ginger ale is clear beverage, while ginger beer is often cloudy due to the residues of brewing, and has a stronger ginger “spicy” taste. Our favourite ginger ale brands include Canada Dry and Fever Tree.
Our Tequila Ginger Ale is a simple 3-ingredient cocktail featuring tequila, ginger ale and lime.
Ginger Beer is often mixed with tequila like in a Mexican Mule, but ginger ale is totally different. The sweet, bubbly soda offers an enticingly tasty pairing with the oaky and vanilla notes of tequila. It’s a simple, low alcohol way to enjoy a good tequila that’s bubbly and refreshing: perfect for sipping any day of the year.

Best Tequila Brands
Tequila is a distilled beverage made from the blue agave plant, primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila 65 km northwest of Guadalajara, and in the Jaliscan Highlands of the central western Mexican state of Jalisco.
The red volcanic soils in the region of Tequila are perfectly suited for growing blue agave, with more than 300 million plants harvested there each year.
Blue agaves grown in the highlands Los Altos region are larger and sweeter in aroma and taste. Agaves harvested in the valley region have a more herbaceous fragrance and flavour. Terroir plays an important role in production, similar to cultivating fine wine.
We recommend sipping a variety of tequila brands in order to find your favourite. Each distillery has a unique method for harvesting agave, distilling and aging & barreling the final product.
Here are the world’s top selling brands worthy of being muddled into a homemade Ginger Ale and Tequila cocktail:

Tequila Ginger Ale Recipe Tips
- We suggest serving this Tequila and Ginger Ale recipe in a rocks glass. If you’re looking to sip a larger serfving feel free to use a Collins glass.
- While we like to use a standard blanco tequila, you can level up the drink by substituting with a more flavourful (and expensive) aged reposado or añejo tequila.
- If you like a smoky flavour in your drink substitute tequila with a quality Mezcal.
- Our recipe serves one person. If you’re hosting a large gathering feel free to multiply the ingredients by the number of guests and muddle the drink in a festive punch bowl or jug rather than a cocktail shaker.
- Feel free to add a few drops of your favourite flavoured bitters to give the drink additional complexity. Lemon or Ginger Bitters work well.
- You can level up this cocktail for a glamorous occasion by topping the drink with champagne sparkling wine.
- An hour or two before you’re planning on serving drinks we suggest placing the tequila bottle in your freezer so it’s well chilled.
- If you find the drink too boozy, sweet or spicy feel free to add a splash of soda to mellow it out.
- For a stronger ginger flavour and spicier experience substitute ginger ale with Caribbean-style ginger beer.
- Jazz up the drink when company is coming by adding a salt rim to each glass like you would a margarita. Wipe the ripe of each glass with a lime slice, invert and then shimmy into a shallow dish filled with kosher salt.

Best Bartender Tools & Cocktail Equipment

- Cocktail Shaker: a bartender’s best friend. Purchase a premium cocktail shaker to muddle or shake up your favourite pink gin cocktails.
- Cocktail Glassware: make sure your bar is stocked with a selection of unique glassware to show off your favourite cocktail creations.
- Hawthorne Strainer: this unique strainer features tightly wound coils and perforated holes. It keeps ice and other large ingredients like lime wedges in your cocktail shaker rather than in the glass.
- Bar Spoons: slender and long bar spoons are a must-have when stirring drinks.
- Bottle Opener: easily open bottles of beer or cider with the flick of your wrist or purchase a corkscrew for fine wine.
