The Savoy Hotel Offers an Oasis in the Heart of Yangon

The Savoy Hotel Yangon is a colonial boutique hotel whose original building dates back over 100 years. The posh property is ideally located a stones throw from the city’s iconic Shwedagon Pagoda, Myanmar’s “twinkling wonder” and the nearby People’s Park.

All 30 deluxe rooms including six suites express the charm of Burma’s old days, decorated with traditional Myanmar antiques and teak furniture. Nicely overshadowed by old trees and brilliant bougainvillea, the pool with its lounge area makes the Savoy Hotel a silent oasis in the heart of a bustling city. It’s a perfect spot to rest and relax after trekking through Inle Lake or peddling past ancient pagoda’s in Bagan.

A warm welcome after stepping through the hotel’s front doors in Yangon.

Fresh flowers perfume the hotel’s black and white checkered floor lobby.

Old wooden staircases lead to the hotel’s suites on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

Peaking into the Executive Suite.

The view shortly after sunrise from my suite’s balcony on the third floor.

Colonial hats, reed fans, plush towels and Burmese umbrellas surround the pool.

Sun-soaked interior of Kipling’s Restaurant, the hotel’s signature fine dining concept.

Overlooking the breakfast buffet, featuring a muddling of Western dishes and Asian faves.

Le Bistrot offers traditional European bistro dishes made from predominantly local ingredients and offers a great selection of wines. Located right by the pool guests have the chance to dine inside or out on the pool deck.

The Captain’s Bar is famous throughout Yangon not only for its cocktails and snacks but also for its weekly live music and live sports events. Highlights from the bartender include watermelon muddled Daiquiri and whiskey-amaretto spiked Sun Set.

My view before dinner from Kipling’s dining room moments before sunset.

Kipling’s offers a fusion of Asian and Western cuisine where traditional recipes combine to create mouthwatering dishes. The hotel is known for serving the best burger in Yangon but I was keen on feasting through authentic Asian featuring a spicy Thai Beef Salad, sizzling King Prawn Green Curry and Crispy Tofu tossed in an aromatic kale-chili dressing.
