Dusit Thani Himalayan Resort is the first international luxury resort to open its doors in Dhulikhel, Nepal.

Located 1.5 hours drive from Tribhuvan International Airport, the 5 star resort provides a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. Nestled amongst a picturesque natural landscape, this postcard-perfect resort is the first offering in the country by Thai hotel brand Dusit Thani.

Upon arrival guests are welcomed into the lobby and given a personalized Khada, a traditional Nepalese ceremonial scarf symbolizing respect.

Following a breezy check-in, guests are encouraged to ring the bell on the Bhogate pomelo tree, a cherished local tradition symbolizing good fortune and the start of a new journey.

The hotel’s interior designer has incorporated classic Nepalese architectural features such as recessed corners, cascading details, and wood carved door frames and windows. The subdued colour of brick, natural wood and brass create a modern sense of place in rural Nepal.

The resort places a strong emphasis on holistic well-being through its unique wellness programs. Devarana Wellness brings elevated treatments and wellness programmes designed to rejuvenate. The resort is located close to Namobuddha Monastery, a prominent pilgrimage site, making it an ideal destination for those who want to pair a wellness retreat with spiritual enlightenment.

The resort also blends the cultural heritage of Nepal with the elegance of Thai hospitality, creating a unique and luxurious experience that cannot be found anywhere else in the country.

Accommodation

The most important question you have to ask yourself when reading a Dusit Thani Himalayan Resort review is, “what type of accommodation would I like to book for my holiday.”

Dusit Thani Himalayan Resort opened in stages, with 24 deluxe rooms and 4 junior suites in summer 2023, 18 exclusive villas in winter 2024 and an additional 26 rooms slated to open in early 2025.

One of our most distinctive features at the resort is its personalized butler service, a first of its kind in Nepal, ensuring that every guest’s needs are catered to. Whether it’s arranging excursions to local attractions or indulging in spa treatments designed specifically for guests, the resort’s friendly butlers ensure your stay is exceptional.

Accommodations at the resort have been constructed so guests can enjoy a Himalayan view or valley view. When booking your room, suite or villa you first need to decide on if you want to be romanced by majestic snow-capped mountains when you wake up each morning or peak down into a verdant valley dotted with rice paddy terraces.

Dusit Thani Himalayan Resort Restaurants

No review of the Dusit Thani Himalayan Resort is complete until you’ve had an opportunity to wag your finger down each of the hotel’s marvellous menus.

The resort’s culinary program is focussed on the signature Thaan Restaurant and Bela lounge.

Thaan

The resort’s signature restaurant is an all-day-dining concept boasting beautiful mountain views.

The menu at Thaan features a selection of local Nepali dishes as well as popular Thai, Indian and Western fare.

Breakfast each morning features a buffet boasting freshly baked pastries, cheese & charcuterie, fresh fruit, yogurt, and cereal. Hot dishes can be made to order like a la minute eggs, waffles, pancakes, paratha and dosa.

Wag your finger down the Thaan menu and you’ll find flavour-packed Asian dishes like Nepalese Momo Dumplings and Tiger Prawn Rato Khursani as well as selection of Indian grilled Tandoori and biryani.

Our favourite dishes at the restaurant were Thai thanks to Dusit Thani's roots in Bangkok.

Since Dusit Thani is a Thai luxury hotel brand it’s not surprise that the kitchen whips up many mouth-watering Thai dishes, like Tom Kha Gai (Chicken Coconut Milk Soup) and peanut slathered spicy satay skewers.

Not to be missed is the Himalayan Thali, a traditional Nepalese meal that showcases a variety of dishes on one plate. An authentic Thali typically includes rice, lentils, gundruk (fermented leafy greens), pickles (achar), seasonal vegetables, saag, meat, ghee and yogurt.

If longing for a taste of home there are also plenty of Western options like burgers, pork chops, pasta, and grilled lamb.

Bela

Looking to spend an afternoon relaxing by the resort’s scenic pool? Or sip a sundowner in the early evening?

Bela is the hotel’s poolside lounge, serving up craft cocktails and seasonal small plates. During the day it’s the perfect spot to grab a midday snack while at night it’s the place to be for a glass of champagne to watch the sunset.

The bar gets busy at night as guests sip cognac and whiskey within a chic space adorned with traditional Buddhist brass horns. During the cooler months of the year keep cozy by gathering around the booming fireplace.

The extensive bar menu features top shelf spirits, ice cold beer and fine wine. Sip classic cocktails like a Negroni, Old Fashioned and Long Island Iced Tea, or order a signature sipper like chili-infused vodka The Sam Rod, or raspberry and beet muddled rum number Lung Ta.
