Brunch at Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui

I spent my first few days in Maui living in luxury at the Fairmont Kea Lani. Blessed with the “gift of jet lag” I found myself wide awake at 4am every morning. Needless to say I was busy as a bee in the wee hours of the morning catching up on emails and dressing myself to the nine’s for the sunrise. Each morning like clockwork I left my room at 5:30am in the pitch dark and scampered across the hotel’s sprawling property to dip my feet in the ocean. I’d grab a seat on a lawn chair and twiddle my thumbs until the sun blasted herself across the island sun kissed my cheeks.

The routine concluded with a visit to the hotels Kea Lani Restaurant where they serve an al fresco breakfast overlooking the swimming pool. Each morning as I sat down I’d giggle as tropical birds chirped themselves silly and often swooped and swooned over people’s heaving plates. The majority of guests take advantage of Kea Lani’s wild and wonderful breakfast buffet. I like to avoid these all-you-can-eat beasts in an attempt to keep my mediocre figure in tact.

I was surprised and delighted by the Kea Lani breakfast menu which featured frothing latte’s, fresh tropical fruit smoothies and a thoughtful selection of entrees which take classic breakfast dishes and given them a nice Hawaiian spin. I had an opportunity to sample a few of their dishes with the standouts being a Macadamia Nut French Toast covered in sweet coconut syrup (a fine local maple substitute) and the Island Benedict a playful twist on the original featuring poached eggs, seared ahi tuna, asparagus, house made poi english muffin  and wasabi hollandaise. Skip the buffet and treat yourself to a pretty plate.
