Llangoed Hall is a stately manor house located a short drive from Brecon in the picturesque Welsh countryside. Surrounded by stunning gardens and a whimsical maze, culinary tourists should begin their visit behind the property. Stroll through Chef Nick Brodie’s Kitchen Garden where hens hustle in free range pens and a wild assortment of fresh produce springs forth from fertile soil. As you make your way to dinner first stop in the drawing room for a champagne sip or cocktail slurp before swaying into posh dinning room. Tables are covered in white: table cloth, crystal glasses, fresh flowers from the garden and the flicker of a lone candle. The intimate setting is where magical meals unfold…

Chef Nick Brodie and his talented team place their emphasis on creating dishes that make use of the finest local Welsh produce such as Welsh Black Beef and local Radnorshire Lamb, all flavoured with herbs picked from the hotel’s organic kitchen garden. Chef Brodie boasts for his bounty, “we have 17 acres of land so sustaining ourselves is a doable means, going into the greenhouse or walking over to the vegetable plots is very inspiring. It makes menu planning easy and keeps you bang on season with the dishes. Our smokehouse adds an extra dimension to what we do. We even use our own chickens, ducks and quails for eggs.”
My meal at Llangoed Hall was my finest dinning experience in Wales with each dish offering pretty on the plate and perfectly contrasted textures and flavours. May I suggest starting with a flute of bubbly and finishing with a selection of cheeses from their out-of-this-world roll-away fromage cart?
