I don’t make it out to the Danforth that often and am rather unfamiliar with the Greek strips restaurant offerings so made a point of doing a bit of research before we enjoyed our jaunt. After asking around it seemed as though Mezes Restaurant is the neighbourhoods go to spot for authentic Greek eats. Upon arrival we were seated on the restaurants street facing petite patio and slowly lowered ourselves while muttering oooh n’ ahhh before whisking our way through the restaurant extensive menu.
Mezes Greek Restaurant was filled with “ladies who lunch,” permed girlfriends meeting up for a catch up over citrus infused hummus and hearty moussaka. We spent the next hour chit chatting while nibbling on flaky phylo-wrapped pastries. We shared two steaming entrees, a classic chicken souvlaki dinner with skewer accompanied by savoury rice and tzatziki and the hearty Aegean Fare Special featuring tender beef and chicken muddled with wine, mushrooms, peppers, onions and brandy. The rain began to spritz itself across the sidewalk as we polished off our plates and I couldn’t help but close my eyes and dream about my upcoming trip to Greece where I imagined I’d be eating plenty of cucumber and yogurt adorned dishes on my adventures in Athens, Mykonos, Santorini and Meteora!
