The Dobson’s were having a Home Alone moment in our rental car as we raced around Cape Town totally lost on our way to celebrate my mothers 59th birthday, and my sisters final night on our South African family adventure. The GPS had proven unreliable and directed us around Table Mountain to the opposite end of the city.
We finally screeched to a park and rushed ourselves into the adorable La Mouette. When doing my research on Cape Town dining I had been tweeted by a few local food editors and chefs who advised me that La Mouette was a perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion.
La Mouette, meaning seagull in French, was named after the seagulls so often seen riding the breeze in Seapoint. The restaurant is located in a heritage building which was originally built as a convent. The entrance offers a stunning central fountain with cobblestone street patio. We were seated inside a charming little dining room and immediately offered glasses of bubbly in cheers to my mothers good health.
Over the course of the next hour we sampled a fantastic selection of French inspired dishes and two bottles of Diemersfontein Pinotage. Highlights included cheese and truffle croquettes, sweet corn risotto and grilled tuna Nicoise. The service at La Mouette was excellent and ambiance created a perfect space for my family to celebrate. If you are spending a few days in Cape Town be sure to book yourself dinner in Seapoint’s most celebrated restaurant.
