Brunch at Patria Restaurant on King West in Toronto

It was a lovely Sunday morning at the end of May when I found myself zooming down Spadina in Toronto. The sun was shinning and the streets were filled with flip flops and shades. I marched into Patria and was greeted by a stunning space featuring massive gold framed portraits, a wee bar which doubles as a serrano ham deli and floral crocheted wall in the main dining room.

Patria restaurant’s dining room filled with the cities top food, lifestyle and fashion media. We spent the next two hours nibbling our way through Patria Toronto’s authentic Spanish brunch offerings. I started off with a foamy latte which spilled into Aperol centric fizz and glorious goblet of white sangria. Addictive spiced almonds and a bowl of warm citrus infused olives were devoured in seconds.

Having traveled throughout Spain I very much appreciated the whispers and odours offered up on the menu. It had been ages since I first plopped a slice of tortila de patatas in my mouth and couldn’t help but smile doing so. Brunch at Patria instantly brought me back to my culinary adventures in Salamanca, Madrid and Barcelona. Other authentic eats include simple pan con tomate, bocadillo stuffed with manchego and jamon and hearty habas con chorizo.

Brunch was fantastically fresh no shock here that Patria was recently ranked as one of the Top 10 Newbies by Toronto Life Magazine. The King West restaurant offers the cities most authentic Spanish menu and I’ll likely be referring food fans here looking for an authentic taste of the Iberian Peninsula.
