A Reimagined Resort On Dawn Beach
Located at Oyster Pond on the island’s Dutch side, the resort sits directly on Dawn Beach, an area known for its dramatic Atlantic-facing views and sunrise light.
The property occupies the site of the former Westin, which has been extensively redeveloped and reintroduced under the JW Marriott brand.
This stretch of coastline feels intentionally removed from the busier hubs of Simpson Bay and Maho, offering a more tranquil, residential feel while still being within driving distance of both the Dutch and French sides of the island.
If you’re looking to go dancing or late night bar hopping it’s likely not the best hotel for you, but if you’re planning to enjoy a relaxing holiday where you can tan in the sun with a good book it’s the perfect choice.
The JW Marriott in St. Maarten is located on the east side of the island so expect strong winds rolling off the Atlantic. I really enjoyed the windy weather. It always feels like you have a fan cooling you down. While guests can swim off the beach, in my 4 days at the resort I never saw anyone swimming in the ocean due to the waves. The pool is the place to be!

The fitness centre complements the spa with modern cardio and strength equipment, while the resort’s programming includes movement and mindfulness activities as well as a new pickleball court.

Direct access to Dawn Beach offers a more rugged Atlantic experience compared to the calmer Caribbean-facing beaches elsewhere on the island, ideal for scenic walks and sunrise views.
