Carousel Bakery in Toronto’s St. Lawrence Market

A visit to the St Lawrence Market is a weekly ritual for Mike G Moore. I was looking forward to touring about the north and south market with him to study how he shops for his weekly grocery essentials. We started at the north market where he picked up a few eggs, feta, apples and rummaged for kale.

The St Lawrence Market is the oldest continually operated market in North America. Built in 1844 as the cities first true City Hall. The Market was recently ranked as the Worlds Best Food Market by National Geographic (which is pretty insanely amazing. Toronto Pride!) The Market is home of the award winning “World Famous Peameal Bacon Sandwich” served up by Carousel Bakery which has been at the same location in the South Market for over 30 years.

For many Saturday Market shoppers like Mike a visit to Carousel Bakery is a ritual. So much so that the shop is notorious for having massive line ups for their perfectly prepared Canadiana sandwiches. Locals and tourists alike be sure to include Carousel Bakery in your culinary itineraries. A line worth getting in line for.
