Review: The Golden Turtle, Toronto

The Golden Turtle Restaurant is Toronto’s best Vietnamese Restaurant. Located at 125 Ossington, just north of Queen Street West this Asian delight packs a punch of authenticity throughout its lengthy menu. The owner tells me his family comes from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. His eyes bulged when I told him, “oh yes I’ve been there and the food your family makes with such care is the most authentic I have experienced in Toronto.” He blushes and seems to take a moment to figure out why a short white man like me has spent his free holiday time visiting one of the busiest and polluted cities in Asia. I recalled my own Pho (pronounced “fa”) discovered throughout the many beautiful colonial streets of Saigon’s old quarter and he couldn’t help but clasp his hands and chirp, “eat up sir eat up my soup!”

I have ordered the restaurants spring rolls, beef pho and two cold noodle dishes topped with spicy pork and my favorite, beef marinated with lemongrass and hot chili.

#1 restaurant reviewed in Ontario since moving to Toronto in 2010.
