Enjoy a Tasty and Chic Retreat in the Heart of Krakow at Boutique Hotel Kanonicza 22

If you’re looking to enjoy an unforgettably chic retreat to Poland’s cultural capital, where posh private apartments are complimented by an award winning culinary concept, look no further than Kanonicza 22. Located in the heart of Krakow’s Old Town, Kranonicza 22 is an old tenement house (on the UNESCO list as it dates back to the 14th century), which has been renovated and  transformed into a petite boutique hotel (offering just three finely pointed apartments).

The Emperor Suite plays home to the top two levels of this historical building, offering an eye-popping space featuring a luxurious lounge, open-concept bedroom outfitted with an emperor size round bed, and convenient office corner. The suite is washed in white, and features elements that combine the buildings historical whimsy with a quiet meets calm contemporary elegance.

In the morning the bathroom fills with warm sunlight, which streams through a trilogy of windows that gently slant across the buildings roof. A choir of orchids offers a pleasant perfume while soaking in the oversized bath or spritzing in the glass-wrapped shower. Tip toe up the steps to the rooftop patio and you’ll find a romantic jacuzzi that offers an unforgettable view of the city’s iconic Wawel Castle. If on your honeymoon it’s ideal to slowly sip a glass of champagne up here moments before sunset. One feels as though they are perched over the city, peering at the Old Town’s picturesque roofs as the crimson sun goes to rest beyond the horizon.

The hotel’s main floor and cellar plays home to one of the city’s top restaurants, Pod Nosem (which translates to “under the nose). The award-winning restaurant offers inspired contemporary twists on traditional Polish cuisine thanks to the culinary creativity of Chef Przemyslaw Bilski.

Upon arrival you’ll easily spot the chef in his open concept kitchen (he’s the very tall one), as he crafts seasonal menus featuring fresh local ingredients such as Smoked Trout with roe and apple relish, Goat Pierogi with parsnip chips, and Rabbit with polenta and beets.

Chef Bilski gained experience in London restaurants Zafferano and Locanda Locatelli, both awarded a Michelin star. Later he was selected as Traditional Chef 2015 by Gault & Millau Poland, and today is recognized as one of the country’s top culinary maestros.

The cellar at Pod Nosem hides a cozy and secret nook so be sure to ask your server for a tour. Housing more than 200 bottles of wine (with 20 coming from local Polish vineyards), the restaurants atmospheric wine cellar is accessed by a vintage spiral staircase and can also be seen from the dining room thanks to circular transparent glass windows which have been inserted into the floor.

If the sun is shining I suggest skipping onto the restaurant’s intimate patio where you can enjoy a perfect perch for people watching while enjoying sublime views of Krakow’s iconic cathedral. You’ll be joining celebrated past guests such as Hans Zimmer, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jim Carrey for an unforgettable and luxurious weekend away.
