Feasting at Fring’s, the King West Resto-Lounge by Susur Lee and Drake

Perched over Toronto’s trendy King Street West in the space that was formerly Crush Wine Bar, Fring’s launched in 2015 with an explosion of buzz after it was announced that celeb Chef Susur Lee’s family and the city’s fave crooner Drake had opened a swanky supper club.

The concept is the brainchild of the chef’s sons, Kai and Levi, who developed a quirky comfort food philosophy which was then tweaked by their famous father.

Wander through the dinning room and you’ll find jaw-dropping interiors by Brenda Bent (and her partner Karen Gable), featuring taxidermied exotic birds, a glowing saloon-style chandelier made from clear plastic coat hangers, red-tasseled boudoir lamps, and fury armchairs which appear to have been borrowed by Guillermo del Torro’s spooky Yeti-collection.

The menu is described as having North American, European and a touch of Asian fusion influences, all served with the intention that guests share family service style. Highlights include creamy 5 Mushroom Pappardelle, a parade of playful Cheese Burger Spring Rolls, Southern Spiced Maple Fried Chicken nestled over a fluffy Hong Kong waffle, and addictive Spiced Short Rib hugged by a tuft of truffle parsnip puree.
