Paradise Found at Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu in Quebec

For more than 115 years, Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu has dazzled visitors who come to the castle-inspired hotel perched over the mighty St. Lawrence River to explore the beauty and bounty of Charlevoix.

Located in the quaint town of La Malbaie, Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu offers year round outdoor activities for those looking to get up close and personal with Mother Nature as well as a slew of decadent indulgences.

The hotel first opened its doors in 1899, built for the Richelieu and Ontario Navigation Company by architect Edward Maxwell. A devastating fire in 1928 completely destroyed the hotel, with the present day property opening just 8 months later after an intense reconstruction.

Stroll through the property and you’ll immediately find yourself swept up in Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu’s romantic history. It’s easy to see how this grandiose palace inspired visitors over 100 years ago who arrived by steamship or choo-choo train.

The historic hotel features 405 luxuriously-appointed guest rooms. If you’re looking to go all out, book the La Seigneurie Suite which offers stunning views overlooking the St. Lawrence River. The luxurious space features a beautiful Young Chang baby grand piano, decorative fireplace, lavish dining area, convenient kitchenette as well as a master bedroom featuring exquisite marble bathroom and whirlpool.

Enjoy breakfast each morning at the sun-soaked Table Et Terroir Restaurant which features floor to ceiling windows, offering a perfect perch overlooking the river. Skip the buffet and order the restaurants two signature brunch dishes that are certain to leave your mouth watering. Savoury fans will love the Eggs Benedict topped with smoked duck breast confit and slathered in creamy hollandaise while any sweet tooth will open the doors to nirvana while forking through a plate of hand-rolled crepes swimming in maple butter.

Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu has played home to horse stables ever since it opened its doors. Horse drawn carriage rides are still a celebrated tradition at the hotel: in the summer guests can enjoy a scenic tour of the property while in the winter months carriages are swapped for a slay which slide over soft powdered snow.

Serious golfers throughout Canada know that few courses in the country are as revered as the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu Golf Club. Inauguration of the golf course took place in 1925 in the presence of William Taft, President of the United States, and Herbert Strong, the links landscape architect. With the addition of nine new holes, this 6,000 metre, 27-hole course offers jaw-dropping views of the St. Lawrence River and the surrounding Charlevoix postcard-perfect landscape.

Book yourself a classic therapeutic massage to get out all the kinks or indulge in the spa’s signature Elixir Ice Cider Body Wrap. Be sure to bring your bathing suit along so you can enjoy the outdoor and indoor swimming pool and jacuzzis which are heated year round.
