Since its inception in 2010, Artbound has raised millions to support schools and creative programs locally and abroad. This year’s “World with Colour” fundraiser in The Junction showed their established knack for mobilizing and energizing supporters of the arts. The community convened to enjoy an evening that seamlessly blended music, dance, visual art and fashion, while supporting arts-focused projects in Toronto, Canadian First Nations communities, Nicaragua, and Haiti.
The indoor and outdoor spaces alike were filled with enthused guests, most of whom embraced the ‘full colour’ dress code- vibrant hues and bright prints dominated the crowd. Cocktail and beer enthusiasts were well served by Grey Goose and Beau’s, while delicious hors d’oeuvres provided by The Drake Hotel circulated all night (the welcome added touch of candy bowls at every table were, however, quickly devoured!)
Music lovers were certainly charmed by singer ColinResponse’s warm and funky vibe. Later in the evening, Montreal’s Busty and the Bass took to the main stage and sparked a dance floor that not a single guest could resist. In between performers, DJs and host Tyrone Edwards of 1LOVETO kept the energy going while allowing guests to take in the work of local visual artists whose pieces surrounded the dance floor. Outside, street artist Domingo Mattle added a performance element and worked on two large-scale canvases for appreciative spectators, who took any spare moment to snap photos.
While the larger-than-life performances dominated the indoor section of the venue, guests seeking a more intimate experience were not disappointed. On an outdoor stage hosted by Artbound partner Artery, singers Jordan Alexander and Pat Robitaille filled the night with their beautiful and more laid-back sounds.
The electricity and diversity of the night showcased Artbound’s flair for blending exciting aesthetics with a charitable cause. With something for everyone, their impact is sure to continue growing with the support of Toronto’s artists and philanthropists.
