Last night Toronto’s who’s who descended on the Power Plant to sip and swagger at the city’s fave annual art party. Power Ball XIX: Stereo Vision offered fashion-forward guests the opportunity to enter parallel universes, transporting Canada’s leading contemporary art institution into hidden worlds that fused together art, music, food, fashion and society.
Party-goers explored alternate realities and multiple dimensions into the wee hours of the morning. Inspiring art highlights included Kelly Richardson’s three-channel projection that took the surreal traditions of landscape painting into the contemporary digital realm; Daniel Barrow’s installation which explored themes of fantasy, empathy, isolation and queerness through intricate, live, manual animations on overhead projectors; and a special photography exhibit by Torrance Hall, the 2017 2017 Max Mara Young Visionary Award winner.
Peckish pretty things were spoilt for choice as Parts & Labour’s Chef Meghan Robbins dazzled with finger-licking-good eats featuring monochromatic canapés (from red chorizo sliders to white brie tarts), a Cuban inspired carving station where guests could slather pulled beef and chicken recado rojo under an epic barbecue sauce fountain and decadent cheese and charcuterie tables adorned with smiling roasted pig head and fluffy cabbage wall.
Dance machines looking to thirst quench could be seen puckering their lips around tall cans of Ace Hill brew, dainty glasses of Château des Charmes vino, bottles of sweet Pommies Cider and muddled craft cocktails featuring Tequila Patrón, Tito’s Vodka and Lot 40 Canadian Whisky.
The clear winner of the evening was Chef Brandon Olsen’s colourful Jackson Pollack inspired chocolates which offered a petite burst of pleasure to smug mugged guests waiting in line at coat check.
