Netflix Rings In the Holiday Season With Christmas Classics

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas… Actually no, not really. I must confess that I could do without snow and cold all together but living in Canada, it sort of comes with the territory. It is because of this aversion to colder weather that when Winter hits, I tend to stay close to home, on the couch, with a blanket. It’s a great opportunity to catch up on all the TV you missed or the movies you’ve been meaning to watch.

I have another confession. I’ve never seen Love Actually. It’s always been on my list of movies I’ll get around to then with each Christmas that passes, the opportunity comes and goes and I still have yet to actually watch it. I decided this year would be the year (as I do every year).

For those of you not familiar, Love Actually, is a story of love set at Christmas time. It follows the lives of various different couples through eight loosely interrelated stories during the month leading up to Christmas. It features an ensemble cast with the likes of Hugh Grant, Liam Nelson, Laura Linney, Bill Nighy, Colin Firth and Emma Thompson.

I’m not sure why I waited so long to watch it! It’s a charming movie with lots of touching moments so I can see why, for many, it’s a Christmas classic. Who doesn’t like watching people fall in love, especially at Christmas and, if you have Netflix, it’s easy to find. Keep that holiday movie marathon momentum with some of these other Christmas classics.

5 Christmas Movies You Can Find On Netflix

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Although this made my Halloween list, I love it so much that it’s worth watching again. In this stop-motion flick, we learn about the traditions and holiday that is Christmas through the eyes of those who’ve never experienced it before as Jack Skeleton’s attempts to bring Christmas to his home cause confusion.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas

When the Grinch decides to rob Whoville of Christmas, a dash of kindness from little Cindy Lou Who might just save the holiday. This live action version of the animated favourite stars Jim Carrey in the titular role and I can’t imagine anyone else better suited to the character.

Christmas With The Kranks

Chock full of stars, this film features Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis as the Kranks who decide to skip Christmas altogether when their daughter decides not to come home for Christmas. But when her plans change and she decides to come home after all, the race is on to celebrate Christmas at the last minute.

The Legend Of Frosty The Snowman

Released in 2005, The Legend of Frosty the Snowman tells the story of when the mayor of Evergreen dismissed magic as nonsense, it was up to Frosty the Snowman to show the local children that magic is real.

Elf

This 2003 film casts Will Ferrell, James Caan, Bob Newhart and Zooey Deschanel as the leads and will always have a special place in my heart. When Buddy the Elf doesn’t fit in with the other North Pole elves, he travels to New York to find his real father and spread some Christmas cheer.
