The Citizen Restaurant on King West in Toronto

The Citizen is the newest iteration of King West’s hip Brant House. The spacious 200-seat open concept space features a central bar with flat screen TVs (sport fans pull up a stool), a choir of tufted leather chesterfields up front for those who want to giggle and swirl fine wine with friends and a collection of hardwood tables for those looking to take a seat to enjoy a fine feast.

This summer The Citizen unveiled a new revamped menu created by co-chefs former Chopped Canada contestant, Jonathan O’Callaghan and Binh An Nguyen. The duo first worked together at Toronto’s Beverley Hotel and got along so well that they hopped over to Maple Leaf Tavern before recently taking over command of the kitchen at The Citizen.

O’Callaghan and Nguyen’s King West restaurant menu offer a playful reinterpretation of classic dishes we all adore. Wag your finger down their menu while sipping a parade of craft cocktails and you’ll find a childhood spin on Mac n Cheese (they’re using alphabet pasta), crunchy General Tso Cauliflower (served alongside a truth-telling fortune cookie), “Swiss Hubert Chicken” offering a mashup of Canada’s chicken loving Swiss Chalet and St Hubert, a hefty burger with house-made american cheese and epic cinnamon bun which could easily feed a family of four!
