In the 12th century Castello di Gabbiano was constructed in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, just south of Florence. Today, this 328-acre estate of vineyards and olive groves is equipped with a modern fermentation cellar, yet the wines are still crafted in the rich and ancient Tuscan winemaking tradition by Winemaker Federico Cerelli. The 2013 Promessa (a blend of 92% Pinot Grigio and 8% Chardonnay) is pale straw in colour with hits of green and a ripe nose full of citrus, floral and tropical fruits.

Having just spent the better part of June lapping up luxury along Italy’s Amalfi Coast I quickly became addicted to this classic pre-dinner sipper. Italy’s infamous aperitif is light in alcohol at only 11% ABV, but has a rich and complex taste from the infusion of a blend of high-quality herbs, roots, sweet oranges and rhubarb. Best served as a classic Apertol Spritz featuring 1 oz Aperol, 2 oz Prosecco, splash of soda and a juicy orange slice.

J.P. Wiser’s Last Barrels Whisky

New on shelves in May 2016, J.P. Wiser’s released its latest innovation: J.P. Wiser’s Last Barrels. This one of a kind Canadian whisky is made using a sour mash method and aged 14 years, resulting in a complex yet smooth whisky. Last distilled in 2001 before retiring the equipment forever, Last Barrels is made using a grain mix that mirrors the first recorded mix in J.P. Wiser’s archives from 1869. Hints of green apple and pear drops on the nose mingled with orange honey. Soft fruits, toasted barley and rye spice on the palate.

Boodles Gin

G&T fans swoon for Boodles Gin, a perfectly balanced London Dry Gin first created by Joseph E. Seagram’s and Songs in 1845, the world’s greatest gin-makers of their day. Boodles is made from English winter wheat, distilled in Cheshire, bottled in Essex and packaged in Scottish glass. Fresh juniper on the nose and rosemary, nutmeg and coriander on the palate.
