Top 5 at AJ’s Dockside on Tybee Island

No trip to Savannah is complete until you’ve enjoyed a road trip to Tybee Island. This cottage country retreat is where folks in Savannah come to relax and tap into a slower pace of life. Horns don’t honk and wind breezes gently across white sandy beach. The shores are lined with swoon-worthy beach houses which sit stoically on stilts and in the summer active adventure seekers enjoy paddle boarding, kayaking and thirst quenching afternoon swim.

If you’re a hungry tan fan head to AJ’s Dockside to soak up the sun over finger-licking-good seafood-centric lunch. AJ’s is a local institution, often rammed on weekends so prepare to take your time here and relax while you wait.

Upon arrival, fans of the fish first flock to the bar where they sip waiting for an al fresco picnic table to free up for feasting. Locals are so friendly down here and once they realize you don’t offer up that southern twang they’re all the more eager to hear about exotic toe-ron-toe. The bar offers an impressive beer list (50+) as well as a long list of tropical slurps best spiked with spiced rum. Classic Down South dishes that you just can’t miss: buttery crab stew, heart po boy sandwich (fried oysters, shrimp or scallops), crispy hushpuppies, battered fried shrimp with cream coleslaw and a tart slice of Key Lime Pie. It’s all so finger-licking-good!

Here are my Top 5 at AJ’s Dockside on Tybee Island:

1) AJ’s Rum Punch: bacardi, myers dark rum, malibu coconut rum, orange, pineapple, grenadine

2) Crab Stew

3) Fried Shrimp Po Boy: remoulade, hushpuppies

4) Fried Shrimp with Creamy Coleslaw

5) Key Lime Pie

Special thanks to Visit Savannah for hosting me as their guest.

We have eaten there many times over the years and hope to repeat the pleasure many more times…like every time we visit Savannah.
The food is exceptional and the wait staff very professional and quite friendly.

One of my favorite places to go when on the Island!!! The sunset is breath taking!! The pineapple frozen margaritas are amazing! Don’t forget
the sweet potato fries and ask for the shrimp blacken (it is an appetizer but they will make it a meal if you ask)!!! It is the best shrimp EVER!!!

I think I have had everything on their menu and it’s all good.
Eating outside watching the water and boats is so relaxing while enjoying the meal. Love it!

the blackened shrimp and grits app is to die for…plate-licking die for. They have the freshest salads. We literally eat there 2x a day when we are at Tybee.
