Reif Estate Winery’s “The Fool” Gamay Nouveau

I had Jordan over to sample a bit of my bottle of Fool. Niagara’s Reif Estate’s Winery has produced a bright ruby red and highly aromatic wine, reminiscent of candied cherries. I actually visited the Reif vineyard during Niagara’s Taste the Season Wine Festival this past Fall.

Gamay Nouveau is a red wine made from the Gamay Noir grape and is traditionally produced in the Beaujolais region of France to mark the end of the harvest and is always officially released for sale on the third Thursday of November. It is amazing to think that just weeks before this wine was a cluster of grapes in the vineyard but by a rapid fermentation, and a quick bottling, all is ready at the midnight hour. Around the world, the race is on to be among the first to taste and enjoy this new wine.
