Pangaea sits on Bay Street just north of Bloor in the heart of Toronto’s Yorkville hood. It had been awfully hot for the past few days so I was actually a bit excited when I walked to the restaurant and noticed storm clouds over head. A few minutes from the restaurant and it started spitting, this city needed a downpour, a respite from the oven like temperatures and a cleansing of its soul.
I was seated right by the window and flipped through the wine list while I waited for Erica to arrive. This would be my 4th Summerlicious review and I was pleased to see that Chef Martin Koupries’s menu showcased a thoughtful representation of the seasons bounty. The dining room was bustling as I slathered my bread with cold butter. Erica plopped herself at the table, successfully avoiding the rain which now showered itself across the city.
I was pleasantly surprised by Pangaea’s offerings and it was by far the best menu I sampled during Summerlicious. It was clear that the Chef sought to creatively showcase the flavours of summer. We started off with glasses of their signature cocktail the Sangria Royale followed by two salads which featured sweet shrimp and Spanish Jamon. House made cavatelli was light and refreshing with local baby carrots, zucchini and sweet goat cheese. Our absolute favorite was the citrus rich Lemon Meringue which was served cold. After she plopped a spoonful in her mouth Erica described this sweet finish as “the best sex in my mouth.”
