It was my first ever adventure into the belly of Scarborough!
Shock and awe but I had never been to Toronto’s “really east end.” So, on a very hot Sunday morning I zoomed along the Don Valley Parkway with Jordan bound for the Toronto Food Fest. We arrived at the Chinese Cultural Centre and quickly picked up our media passes. We were taken on a tour to meet all of the vendors, taste their treats and hear their stories before the public swarmed the place.
There were businesses set up in the middle of the parking lot as well as inside the Chinese Cultural Centre. It was nice to see a Food Festival which focused on showcasing lesser known pop ups with a focus on businesses in Scarborough and Toronto’s outer fringes (which were obviously all knew to me).
We sampled:
conchinita pibil spring rolls and corn bread grilled cheese
mango lassie
chicken satay mixed bowl
by Casa Manila
baklava
meatballs
hot sauce
milk tea
shortbread
arancini
sticky toffee bake’n cake, salted caramel bake’n popcorn
