Pearl overlooks Toronto’s waterfront on the 2nd floor of the Queens Quay terminal. I visited this family style Chinese restaurant for a quick bite before the premier of The Wooster Group’s Version of Tennessee Williams’ Vieux Carre. I arrived a bit early so took a little stroll around the space. On a sunny summer day the views across Lake Ontario and The Toronto Islands would be stunning. I poked my head out of the west window and could see the Harbourfront Centre just a stones throw away.
I was joined by a few World Stage peeps and my friend Jonathan. We munched unexceptional and overpriced Chinese food whilst psyching ourselves up for the show. It was clear that many of the tables in the dinning room were having a quick bite before the show started in the Fleck Theatre, a hop skip and a jump from the restaurant.
Pearl has a charming location, emotionless staff and a menu with tourist inflated prices…not to mention dishes on their menu such as “Pan Fried Hockey Pucks.” Really?
Dinner was served:
Sweet and Sour Pork
Singapore Rice Noodles
BBQ Pork Buns
