Alimento recently opened its doors on King Street West at Brant. The neighbourhood had been eagerly awaiting this new arrival for over two years. Half of the space is a fine epicurean Italian imported grocery (with a plethora of imported pasta, amazing cheese selection and home made biscotti). Many are comparing this new arrival to the long standing city favorite, Pusateri’s. The other half of the space is a spacious restaurant offering lunch and dinner service.
I recently enjoyed lunch with coworkers Leah and Paula. The service was prompt and friendly. We arrived early in the lunch hour and by the time we left the place was bustling. I was surprised (in a good way) by two things: the menu is priced very reasonably for the area and the restaurant provides not just complimentary bread at the table but also knots of freshly made in house mozzarella! Alimento is a perfect spot to grab a quick business lunch or meet up with a friend after work for a more leisurely stroll through the menu. Not to mention, a perfect spot to grab a few treats for your pantry, flown in from Roma.
We enjoyed:
Beet Caprese
roasted beets, fior de latte, pistachio
Brussel Sprout Salad
shaved brussel sprouts, piave, crispy pancetta, apple, caramelized honey vinaigrette
Bacala Fritter
tomato sauce and bomba vinaigrette
Parmigiana Pizza
tomato, fior de latte, smoked ricotta, roasted eggplant, basil
