I was recently invited to Babaluu Supperclub on Yorkville Avenue for Nicki Laborie and Samantha Millar’s birthday party. I arrived on one of Toronto’s first truly freezing Friday nights. I was amazed as Nicki arrived in a beautiful little dress with a tan she recently acquired in Brazil. I decided not to complain about feeling even slightly cold in my jeans and jacket. Babaluu features a Spanish inspired menu and throughout the night a two man band played Salsa. Later into the evening as we were finishing our meal a Salsa teacher made the rounds: pulling reluctant woman out of their chairs and onto the dance floor. Dinner turned into drinks and the room filled with Latin inspired locomotion.
Nicki had organized our menu:
Babaluu Dip Platter
Plantain, yucca and corn chips served with an assorted of guacamole, chickpea and black bean dips
Grilled Pears Salad
With proscuitto, palmito hearts and pinenuts on a bed of organic greens in a balsamic reduction vinaigrette
Grilled Aged Angus Beef Striploin NY Steak
Served with turned white potatoes, chimichurri, roasted Spanish onions, Portobello mushrooms and spinach with red wine Demi glaze
Bobbette & Belle Birthday Cake
Salted Caramel Buttercream
