Review: Shanghai Cowgirl, Toronto

I recently visited Shanghai Cowgirl on Queen Street with Victoria Cruz who I connected with at Wvrst when eating out with Shingo and Meaghan. We met after work on Halloween Night (one of those never forget holidays as the Jack-O-Lantern on the bar top was aglow and puking up pumpkin seeds). We chatted about social media whilst devouring our dinners at this classic Toronto diner.

We enjoyed:

Chicken Fried Steak with Sweet Potato Mash and Brocoli

Shanghai Noodle with Vegetables

The poutine was a delight (especially after a long work day when I hadn’t had a chance to eat much for lunch). Victoria (who you can see is a bona fide Asian) ordered the Shanghai Noodle as she wanted to see how the kitchen had interpreted the food she is so fond of (which we decided was pretty mediocre and reminded me of Sweet Lulu’s offerings). I ordered the battered steak as three of my twitter followers informed me it was their best signature dish. The sweet potato mash was heavenly while the steak was an artery clogger.

#254 restaurant reviewed in Ontario since moving to Toronto in 2010.
