Italian at F’Amelia Ristorante in Cabbagetown

F’Amelia Ristorante is an Italian restaurant, which has just opened its doors in Toronto’s Cabbagetown. F’Amelia is located on Amelia Street (note the play on words, I sort of have a penchant for those). I headed over to the restaurant with my friends Abz and Jeff after work on a very rainy Fall evening (umbrellas essential). When we arrived at the restaurant we enjoyed glasses of Conde de Caralt Brut. Cheers to good friends and food.

We ordered:

Gnocchi with porcini and house made pancetta

Pumpkin gnocchi with brown butter, sage and Amoretti

Tagliatelle with braised rabbit, Ontario artichokes

Saffron risotto with braised osso bucco and bone marrow butter

Cappello di Totto: ricotta stuffed crust, cherry tomato, arugula and fior di latte

Milk Chocolate and Caramel Truffle and White Chocolate and Chai Truffle

Rum ginger apple toffee cake with vanilla gelato honey bee pollen

Brulee lemon tart with macerated berries

Service was attentive in a restaurant that appeared to be full of locals stopping by for a nourishing Italian home cooked meal. The interior was intimate and features a cute little bar and wines by the glass scribbled on a large chalk board. Both Jeff and Abz commented on the fact that the place was cozy and we all felt as though we were sitting in someone’s home. The patio outside was barren due to the storm outside but was sizeable so I’m sure this place will be popular for East Enders in the Spring.

The Chef at F’Amelia does a great job at crafting his pasta dishes. The restaurant also features a wood burning oven which you can see from the main dining room. We ordered the stuffed pizza as it sounded unusual but wouldn’t order it again, simply a preference. The other pizza pies coming out of the oven looked spectacular. As we finished our dessert the Chef came out and presented us with three glasses of house made liqueurs. Jeff lined them up so they resembled the Italian flag. Green-basil, Yellow-limoncello, Red-Blueberry. After a few pounds of the glass I was awake again: dancing in the rain, all the way home.
