I spent my entire Saturday afternoon at Steamwhistle’s Oktoberfest Party. Arriving before the doors opened at 3pm I found myself drinking beer and doing a little German jig past the dinner hour. My sister and I stumbled onto Front Street in search of satiation. We walked past the new Earls on King West at University Avenue and stopped in our tracks.
My sister and I were born in Alberta. We have visited the West Coast several times, so are familiar with the Earl’s concept. I actually remember my first Earl’s experience in Edmonton where my mother would not stop talking about her pizza which featured Alberta Beef and caramelized onions (I was around 15 at the time so funny that the memory is so clear in my mind today!) I studied Hotel and Food Administration at Guelph University and have a few friends from school who have managed their west coast properties. One of my cousins is currently a waitress at their Vaughn Mills location. Also, my friend Nicki from View the Vibe has been raving about the ambiance, patio and exemplary menu offerings. So to say the least, Earls and I have a past history.
So my sister and I marched into the restaurant with the intention of grabbing a quick bite. I had consumed so much beer at that point I really needed to fill up. The restaurant features a sprawling and comfortable patio space as well as intimate dining room with massive bar and lounge. Amy and I hopped up on bar stools and spent the next hour slowly munching on our plates. I didn’t have the energy to properly review the entire menu but hope to return soon.
