Thai Melon Lime Slush

This past week has been a hot one for everyone in Toronto. Record breaking heat waves, somewhere hovering around 50 degrees humidity inclusive. I had bought a cantelope and wanted to use it up, sat drumming my fingers over its elephant tough skin and then I bolted out of my chair to grab a blender.

A flash of my past: I was reminded of how the best thirst quenching beverage when in Thailand is a melon slushy that they sell on road side stands across Bangkok. You can check my cute little face here sitting at the famous Chatuchak Market in Bangkok slurping my first melon and lime slushy here. I will never forget how hot and humid it was that day. I got busy in the kitchen to recreate.

NOTE: I made this beverage for about 10 people when they came over for a little family gathering. You can obviously make this beverage for any number of people.

You will need:

1 1/2 melon: I used cantaloupe but you could use watermelon or honeydew

8 limes juiced

1 can of condensed milk

plenty of ice

After slicing your melon and removing the skin and seeds place in blender and puree. I then stored this purre with the juice of 8 limes in the fridge until guests arrived. When ready to serve, blitz about 1 cup of fruit puree with ice and 2 tablespoons of condensed milk. Serve cold with lime garnish.

This drink is yummy and very refreshing on a hot day! I think I’ll try it w/ a hit of vodka 🙂

Vodka is an excellent idea! Maybe a bit of Peach Schnapps?
