Review: Lady Marmalade, Toronto

Toronto, I’m East! This past weekend I moved into my new apartment at Yonge and Maitland and was eager to check out Lady Marmalade for brunch as I had heard many an East Ender rave. I met with my friend Eric and Mike on Sunday morning. We were lucky to  wait indoors for only a few minutes. We were seated amongst the restaurant eclectic furniture and grazed the expansive and creative menu. Whilst flipping through the offerings I couldn’t help but notice how the line quickly ran out the door and down the street (which would remain this way for the duration of our meal). This place is popular, and for good reason!

We enjoyed:

“huevos migas” 3 soft-scrambled eggs w/ cheese, tomatoes, scallions & spicy sausage, served w/ basmati brown rice n’ beans, sour cream, organic corn tortilla chips & pico de gallo salsa

baked “crepe croque monsieur” w/ ham, cheddar & miso-scallion cream, served w/ poached eggs, spinach & potatoes

rockin’ morrocan free-run chicken & vegetable stew served on cous- cous and topped w/ sour cream, scallions & cilantro

Service was chipper and it seems to be the sort of place you can run into any Tom, Dick or Harry. Next time I return I will have to check out their waffles, poutine and one of their benny’s. To be continued…
