I visited Washington DC on a beautiful summer weekend for the 4th of July. I arrived from Chicago with my sister Amy and once finished I headed on to New York City. I couldn’t have been more shocked by the insane presence of military and guns in the 4th of July Parade. I guess I really wasn’t that alarmed but it still makes my jaw drop seeing litttle girls twirling around fake wooden guns while the masses cheer. Compared to a Canadian parade I’d say 80% of the floats were military based where the same percentage in Canada would feature local politicians, rights groups, religions, gays (shock and awe) and a great display of multicultural diversity.
Highlights included visiting every possible art gallery and Smithsonian museum as well as fireworks which shot off over the Lincoln Memorial.
