Review: The Friendly Thai, Toronto

The Friendly Thai located on the Roncesvalles strip is the west ends best spot for Thai Takeout and Delivery. A few of my coworkers suggested the place as I was having one of those very rare occasions (that happen about once a year) where I didn’t have the energy to cook in the kitchen or head out to a restaurant.

The restaurant has a great delivery promotion you should inquire about before ordering over the phone. If you order over $35 worth of food before tax you are given a free order of Mango Chicken (a value of $12) not shabby!

The deep fried tofu were a great app’ and the mango chicken was stellar. I have yet to find a Pad Thai in Toronto which actually tasted anything like the wonderfully fresh and cheap offerings at street side stands in Bangkok Thailand. I will never forget my first order of Pad Thai when I arrived on Khao San Road. For 2 USD I was given a piping hot plate of Pad Thai with two huge spring rolls. Beat That! Ah Memories.

I enjoyed the following with plenty of leftovers for several lunches at work over the course of the following week:

Deep Fried Tofu
Deep fried tofu served with peanut sauce.

Mango Chicken
Lightly stir-fried breaded chicken with slices of fresh mangos and assorted vegetables. A traditional favourite.

Beef Fried Rice (KHAO PHAD GAI)

Thai fried rice with beef, egg and vegetables.

Thai Rice Noodle (PHAD THAI)
Stir-fried Thai noodle with chicken, shrimp, egg, tofu, tamarind sauce, sprinkled with roasted peanuts; served with fresh green onion & lemon.

Green Curry Chicken (KEANG KHIAO WAN GAI)
A popular green curry with chicken, fresh basil, coconut milk and vegetables.

#134 restaurant reviewed in Ontario since moving to Toronto in 2010.
