Review: Mitzi’s Sister, Toronto

Mitzi’s Sister is located just west of Jameson Avenue on Queen Street West in the heart of Parkdale. The restaurant is known by most as a great local bar with a colourful mix of local music talent performing throughout the week. Pub fare includes the typical burgers, wings, fries and salads.

I wanted to pop by on the weekend for their brunch to see if it was worthwhile as it is a stones throw from my porch at King and Maynard. Circumstances were interesting. Toronto had received its first major dump of snow that Friday evening so Saturday morning people across Toronto were out on the street shoveling snow and wiping the fluffy flakes off their cars. Of course the TTC was delayed so I grabbed a seat by the window and waited for my friend Bobby and cousin Chris to arrive. Chris ordered the BLT made with Canadian Bacon and Bobby and I ordered the Eggs Benny. My plate was best described as mediocre and uninspiring. The typical sliced tropical fruits, a little pile of dry “spiced” home fries and two eggs benny. The atmosphere here would definitely be better for live music in the evenings. There isn’t too much charm here for a Saturday morning.

If you are in the West End and use Mitzi’s Sister as your go to brunch spot I would encourage you to try out my two favorites. Just a few blocks west on Queen is Easy Restaurant at Roncesvalles which serves up an amazing Huevos Rancheros. Also a few blocks east on King in Liberty Village sits the bustling School Bakery and Cafe.

#130 restaurant reviewed in Ontario since moving to Toronto in 2010.
