Review: Okonomi House, Toronto

A stones throw from Holt Renfrew on Bloor sits my favorite Japanese restaurant. It doesn’t dish up little sushi bits but does specialize in Osaka’s famous Okonomayaki pub food. Okonomayaki means “as you like it” and is often referred to as Japanese Pizza because this large pancake is ordered with toppings! I always get bacon with bento flakes (they shake like animated leaves in autumn!) Sweet mayo and a lovely bbq sauce are always squeezed on top. This is the CLASSIC “out for drinks all night and want to stuff my face with greasy food Japanese food.” When I was in Japan last year I ate Okonomayaki twice a day when in Osaka (nothing better than the birthplace of a dish!) Truly amazing!

#38 restaurant reviewed in Ontario since moving to Toronto in 2010.
