Review: Big Smoke Burger, Toronto

At 573 King Street West sits Big Smoke Burger. It seems like the city is now filled with gourmet burger and poutine spots. Post economic downturn people can’t seem to afford fillet mignon as often as they used to in the past… but still want to eat out at dining establishments that in some way put a spin on the word delicious.

Big Smoke Burger is a tiny little burger joint with enough space to seat maybe 20 people. I arrived to the restaurant early and noticed half of the customers came to pick up and take out. The burgers here are handcrafted one at a time, 6 oz, fresh Ontario AAA ground chuck. Fresh and never frozen.

I overlooked my pudgy waistline and without hesitation ordered a chocolate milkshake, poutine and classic burger (with lettuce, red onion, tomato, pickles, ketchup and dijon).

Big Smoke Burger was…what can I say…a burger place. I wouldn’t take the trip again as it didn’t particularly stand out in my mind as memorable. I would suggest BQM Quality Meats burger spot any day (I have written a review on BQM so check it out!) Darryl ordered the onion rings and wasn’t impressed. My burger tasted of beef but would have been better if it had been laced with a bouquet of herbs.

#20 restaurant reviewed in Ontario since moving to Toronto in 2010.

I definitely agree. Although Craft Burger is good, BQM is far better, actually one of my favourite spots to eat in the city. They just opened another location on Queen, just East of Spadina.

Riaz is correct because he agrees with me. For being correct Riaz you are cordially invited to my house for my very own burger recipe which is far better than anything you could ever pay for. :)

I think Craft is actually one of the better in Toronto! It’s hard though, there are so many.
