Review: Cafe Polenz, Toronto

Smack dab in the middle of Toronto’s Roncesvalles sits the most authentic Polish restaurant in the city. Cafe Polenz, located at 195 Roncesvalles Avenue is a cute little restaurant serving reasonably priced and authentic Polish cuisine (and ummm massive portions so beware don’t order too much unless you want take out for a meal later in the day).

We were given a basket of Polish Rye which we ate with our hot bowl of Goulash. I was then awed by a massive plate of freshly made potato and cheddar cheese perogies. I tossed the sprig of parsley to the floor (I really do hate those cheap plate florals) and dug into our little cup of sour cream and another made of honey, caramelized onions and crackling. I kept thinking to myself while devouring these little Polish dumplings, “oh my goodness and I ordered us another entree that hasn’t arrived yet, egad.” Our Hungarian potato pancake stuffed with beef goulash arrived at the table with traditional pickled salads and steamed vegetables.

I was stuffed. I was happy. Now that’s what I call lunch!

#18 restaurant reviewed in Ontario since moving to Toronto in 2010.
